Hearts for Heartland is a charity event benefitting Heartland Education Community, Inc. (HEC), a nonprofit organization that supports the next generation of leaders and helps instill values and character. HEC invests time and volunteer-led resources in initiatives like English Language Learners, Character Education, Mentorship, OrrViews, Innovative Curriculum, Wellness Initiatives and many more. 100% of proceeds are donated directly to HEC.

First-Grade Students

Students were recognized by school staff and invited to attend a Character Basketball Game for exemplifying good character, wellness and demonstrating Character Words of the Month. Students showed support for this year's theme: "Good Character is at Our Core!"

From the Classroom to the Field, Character is Everywhere

Students at Orrville Elementary, Middle and High School all participated in Character Education Week, which kicked off with the Character Football Game. During halftime, students walked alongside community members holding Character banners and posters displaying this year’s theme: “Good Character is at our Core!"

OHuddle

Heartland Education Community supports nonprofit organizations within the Wayne County school districts like OHuddle, which provides school-based 1:1 volunteer mentorship for youth. Mentorship through OHuddle is more than just a weekly meeting. Students receive support with a dedicated coordinator for every school building. The coordinators facilitate mentorship and coaching to help spark each child's interests while investing in and supporting their talents.

Meet Our Keynote Speaker

Archie Griffin, Two-Time Heisman Trophy Winner

Archie Griffin was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1986 and is the only two-time Heisman Trophy winner in NCAA history, making him one of the greatest college football players of all time. Griffin is the former football running back for the Cincinnati Bengals. He spent seven seasons with the NFL, but is also known for his college football career as a halfback and tailback for The Ohio State University Buckeyes from 1972-1975. Griffin has won four Big Ten Conference titles with the Buckeyes and was the first player to ever start in four Rose Bowls. He is one of only two players to win The Big 10 Most Valuable Player Award twice (1973-1974).

The Heartland Education Community, Inc., was formed in the early 1990s to explore ways to leverage the talent and resources of the community for the betterment of education. From its founding, Heartland has intended to strengthen the sense of partnership between segments of the community – schools, businesses, nonprofit organizations, parents, and churches.

Join us for a private concert with country music artist Phil Vassar! Most notable for his greatest hits, including Just Another Day in Paradise, Carlene and Six Pack Summer, Vassar made his debut on the country music scene in the late 1990s, co-writing singles for several country artists, including Tim McGraw's "For a Little While" and "My Next Thirty Years," Jo Dee Messina's "Bye, Bye" and "I'm Alright," Collin Raye's "Little Red Rodeo" and Alan Jackson's "Right on the Money."
