U.S. Weather Update 1.15.25

Summary:
Critical to extremely critical fire weather conditions will continue for southern California through Wednesday due to moderate to locally strong Santa Ana winds. Red Flag Warnings are in effect. A fresh Arctic blast will impact the eastern half of the U.S. through the middle of this week before milder temperatures briefly return by week's end. Heavy lake effect snow continues in the Great Lakes. Impacted Lanes: I-82, I-5, I-15, I-40, I-90, I-79, I-86, I-81, I-87, I-91


New York
Lake Effect Snow Warning remains in effect until 4 AM EST Thursday morning

  • Heavy lake effect snow. Additional snow accumulations 4 to 8 inches in the most persistent lake snows.
  • Impacts: Travel will be very difficult with very poor visibility and deep snow cover on roads. The hazardous conditions will impact the Wednesday morning and evening commutes.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 1 AM EST Thursday morning

  • Lake effect snow. Additional snow accumulations up to 3 inches.
  • Impacts: Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the Wednesday morning and evening commutes.

Montana
High Wind Warning remains in effect until 8 PM MST Thursday evening

  • West winds 40 to 50 mph, with gusts up to 80 mph, are expected.
  • Impacts: High winds may move loose debris, damage property and cause power outages. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

Oregon
Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 10 AM PST this morning

  • Visibility one quarter mile or less in dense fog.
  • Impacts: Low visibility could make driving conditions hazardous.

Freezing Fog Advisory remains in effect until 10 AM PST this morning

  • Visibility one quarter mile or less in freezing fog.
  • Impacts: Low visibility could make driving conditions hazardous. Freezing fog may allow spots of ice to develop on roadways.

California
Wind Advisory remains in effect until 6 PM PST this evening

  • Northeast winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts to 50 mph.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.
