U.S. Weather Update 1.17.25

Summary:
Arctic air plunges across the Rockies and Great Plains Friday, crossing the Deep South and Great Lakes Saturday night, and the Eastern Seaboard on Sunday bringing dangerously cold wind chill temperatures. Brief and intense bursts of snow and gusty winds in snow squalls could lead to reduced visibility and deteriorating road conditions across the northern Plains into the Rockies through Friday. Impacted Lanes: I-90, I-15, I-94, I-29, I-25, I-80, I-76, I-70, I-40, I-10, I-27, I-20


New Mexico
Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 11 PM MST Saturday evening

  • Moderate to heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 3 and 6 inches.
  • Impacts: Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will likely become slick and hazardous.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 11 PM MST Saturday evening

  • Snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 1 and 3 inches.
  • Impacts: Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will likely become slick and hazardous.

High Wind Warning remains in effect until 4 PM MST this afternoon

  • West winds 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 60 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Damaging winds will blow down trees and power lines. Widespread power outages are expected. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

Wind Advisory remains in effect until 4 PM MST this afternoon

  • West winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 55 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs may be blown down. Expect strong crosswinds on area roadways. Areas of blowing dust will reduce visibility. Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.
