Summary:
A rare winter storm impacting the Southern U.S. will move offshore Wednesday morning. Behind the storm, arctic air will continue encompassing the eastern two-thirds of the Nation with only a slow return to normal temperatures expected by the end of the week. Moderate to strong Santa Ana winds and low humidity will maintain Critical fire weather conditions in southern California into Thursday. South Carolina
Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 12:15 PM EST this afternoon
- Heavy snow. Additional snow accumulations up to one to two inches. Highest amounts along and east of I-95.
- Impacts: Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will likely become slick and hazardous. Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the Wednesday morning commute.
Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 10 AM EST this morning
- Slick and hazardous roads due to lingering snowpack and black ice.
- Impacts: Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will likely become slick and hazardous.
New York
Lake Effect Snow Warning remains in effect until 1 PM EST this afternoon
- Heavy lake effect snow. Additional snow accumulations 4 to 8 inches in the most persistent lake snows.
- Impacts: Travel will be difficult. The hazardous conditions will impact the Wednesday morning commute.
Wyoming
High Wind Warning remains in effect until 5 PM MST this evening
- Northwest winds 35 to 45 mph with gusts up to 65 mph.
- Impacts: Mainly to transportation. Strong cross winds will be hazardous to light weight or high profile vehicles, including campers and tractor trailers.
Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 11 PM MST this evening
- Occasional snow and areas of blowing snow. Total snow accumulations between 1 and 5 inches, higher amounts over the higher hills. Winds gusting as high as 45 mph.
- Impacts: Expect difficult travel conditions due to snow, blowing snow and poor visibility. This includes portions of I-90 south of Hardin, and US-212.
South Dakota
Wind Advisory remains in effect until 5 PM MST this evening
- Northwest winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 55 mph expected.
- Impacts: Sudden wind gusts can cause drivers to lose control, especially in lightweight or high profile vehicles. Strong winds can cause blowing dust, reduced visibility, and flying debris. Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.
Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 8 AM MST Thursday morning
- Snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 4 and 9 inches, with locally higher amounts possible. Winds gusting as high as 40 mph.
- Impacts: Visibilities may drop below 1/2 mile at times due to falling and blowing snow, especially during the day on Wednesday.
