Summary:
A powerful storm continues to impact the State of Alaska with high winds, blizzard conditions and coastal impacts. A Pacific storm will track inland through the Four Corners region into Thursday. Accumulating snow, especially for the higher terrain, is expected. This storm tracks eastward along the Gulf coast then to the Mid-Atlantic this weekend. Impacts from heavy rain and snow are expected. Impacted Lanes: I-40, I-5, I-90, I-82, I-84, I-80, I-15, I-10, I-17, I-25, I-20, I-94, I-29, I-70, I-35, I-49, I-81
New Mexico
Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 5 PM MST Thursday evening
- Light to moderate snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 3 to 5 inches possible above 7000 ft. and 1 to 3 inches between 6000 and 7000 ft. Winds gusting as high as 40 mph.
- Impacts: Plan on slippery road conditions. Patchy blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning commute.
Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 11 PM MST Thursday evening
- Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 3 and 7 inches with locally higher amounts possible in the Zuni Mountains and over Mount Taylor. Winds gusting as high as 35 mph.
- Impacts: Travel could be very difficult. Tire traction will be reduced. Extend the distance between your vehicle and the vehicle in front of you. This includes along portions of I-40 from the Arizona border across the Continental Divide. The hazardous conditions could impact the Thursday morning and evening commutes.
Iowa
Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 10 AM CST this morning
- Visibility down to a quarter mile or less in dense fog.
- Impacts: Low visibility could make driving conditions hazardous. With temperatures below freezing, some of this fog could cause slick or icy surfaces, especially on untreated roads, bridges, and overpasses.
California
Winter Strom Warning remains in effect until 10 PM PST this evening
- Heavy snow. Additional snow accumulations 2 to 8 inches.
- Impacts: Travel could be very difficult to impossible with travel delays, chain controls, snow covered roads and reduced visibility at times.
Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 10 AM PST Thursday morning
- Moderate snow expected. Gusty winds up to 55 mph. Total snow accumulations from around 1 inch at 4000 feet up to of 3 to 5 inches above 5000 feet. Northwest winds will increase to 20 to 35 with gusts up to 55 mph. Isolated to 65 mph possible on favored peaks and foothill locations.
- Impacts: Travel could be very difficult, with potential for delays and closures. Interstate 5 near Tejon Pass could see snow, ice, and gusty winds, which could cause significant travel delays.
Wind Advisory remains in effect until 3 AM PST Thursday morning
- West winds 20 to 35 mph with gusts up to 55 mph. Isolated gusts to 60 mph across the western portion of the valley.
- Impacts: Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects and make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result.
