Prolonged period of Lake Effect snow will impact the Great Lakes region into this first weekend of the New Year. A Pacific storm moves inland with rain showers and higher elevation snow through Friday. Snow will spread into most of Montana through Saturday. Energy from this system will spawn another storm across the Plains late this weekend. Rain, thunderstorms and a wintry mixture will develop. New York
Lake Effect Snow Warning remains in effect until 4 PM EST Saturday afternoon
- Heavy lake effect snow. Additional snow accumulations between 2 and 6 inches, with event total accumulations between 6 and 12 inches with up to 18 inches in the most persistent snow bands. Winds gusting as high as 35 mph.
- Impacts: Visibilities may drop below 1/4 mile due to falling and blowing snow. Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the Friday morning and evening commutes.
Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 6 PM EST Sunday evening
- Lake effect snow. Additional snow accumulations 4 to 8 inches in the most persistent lake snows. Winds gusting as high as 35 mph will produce some blowing and drifting snow.
- Impacts: Travel will be difficult with snow covered roads and reduced visibility. The hazardous conditions will impact the Friday morning and evening commutes.
Montana
Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 5 PM MST Saturday evening
- Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 4 and 8 inches. Winds gusting as high as 35 mph.
- Impacts: Travel could be very difficult. The hazardous conditions will impact the Friday evening commute.
Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 8 AM MST Saturday morning
- Mixed precipitation expected. Likelihood of minor to moderate impacts from around 1 to 3 inches of snow is 80 percent, and 3 to 6 inches of snow is 20 percent. Ice accumulations around a light glaze.
- Impacts: Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the Friday morning and evening commutes, especially over higher passes.
Texas
Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 9 AM CST this morning
- Visibility one quarter mile or less in dense fog.
- Impacts: Low visibility could make driving conditions hazardous.
High Wind Warning remains in effect until 4 PM CST Sunday afternoon
- West winds 35 to 55 mph with gusts up to 75 mph expected.
- Impacts: Damaging winds will blow down trees and power lines. Widespread power outages are expected. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.
Virginia
Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 4 AM EST Saturday morning
- Snow expected. Total snow accumulations up to one to three inches. Winds gusting as high as 50 mph.
- Impacts: Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the Friday morning and evening commutes. Gusty winds could bring down tree branches.
Wind Advisory remains in effect until 7 AM EST Saturday morning
- Northwest winds 15 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph expected.
- Impacts: Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.
