U.S. Weather Update 1.6.25

Summary:
A major winter storm is moving from the Central Plains into the Mid-Atlantic region. Eight -14 inches of snow is forecast from northern Missouri through the Central Appalachians, with 6-12 inches of snow likely across the Mid-Atlantic states including the Washington, D.C. metro area. Heavy freezing rain will create a swath of damaging ice accumulations from Kansas through the central Appalachians. Impacted Lanes: I-84, I-5, I-80, I-15, I-40, I-10, I-90, I-94, I-70, I-64, I-74, I-65, I-71, I-69, I-75, I-76, I-77, I-79, I-68, I-22, I-59, I-26, I-95, I-85, I-81, I-86


Pennsylvania
Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 1 AM EST Tuesday morning

  • Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 3 and 6 inches.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult. The hazardous conditions will impact the Monday morning and evening commutes.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 12:15 AM EST Tuesday morning

  • Snow. Additional snow accumulations between 2 and 4 inches.
  • Impacts: Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the Monday morning and evening commutes.

California
High Wind Warning remains in effect until 6 PM PST Wednesday evening

  • North to northeast winds 30 to 45 mph with gusts between 60 and 80 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Damaging winds could blow down trees and power lines. Widespread power outages are possible. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 10 AM PST this morning

  • Visibility one quarter mile or less in dense fog.
  • Impacts: Low visibility could make driving conditions hazardous.

Wind Advisory remains in effect until 7 AM PST Wednesday morning

  • Northeast winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 55 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

Washington
Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 10 AM PST this morning

  • Visibility one quarter to one half mile in dense fog.
  • Impacts: Low visibility could make driving conditions hazardous.

Freezing Fog Advisory remains in effect until 10 AM PST this morning

  • Visibility one quarter to one half mile in dense fog.
  • Impacts: Low visibility could make driving conditions hazardous.
