U.S. Weather Update 1.8.24

Summary:
Significant winter storms will track across the Lower 48 through this week. Blizzard conditions for the Plains and Midwest, strong to damaging winds, severe thunderstorms and heavy rainfall from the deep South through the Northeast are expected through Tuesday. Another system bringing heavy precipitation to the Pacific Northwest through Wednesday. For Hawaii, a cold front will focus heavy rain. Impacted Lanes: I-90, I-82, I-5, I-84, I-15, I-94, I-80, I-25, I-70, I-40, I-35, I-10, I-37, I-45, I-20, I-29, I-30, I-55, I-49, I-12 I-59, I-69, I-22, I-65, I-75, I-85, I-95, I-26, I-24, I-64, I-77, I-81, I-68, I-76, I-86, I-87, I-91, I-93


Colorado
Blizzard Warning remains in effect until 5 AM MST Tuesday morning

  • Blizzard conditions. Additional snow accumulations of 5 to 17 inches. Winds gusting as high as 70 mph.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult to impossible. Widespread blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute. Very strong winds could cause extensive tree damage. 

High Wind Warning remains in effect until 5 PM MST this afternoon

  • North winds 35 to 45 mph with gusts up to 70 mph.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects and a few power outages may result. Blowing dust will reduce visibility to less than a quarter mile in places. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. 

Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 2 PM MST this afternoon

  • Heavy snow. Additional snow accumulations between 1 and 5 inches. Winds gusting as high as 55 mph.
  • Impacts: Travel will become very difficult to impossible due to heavy snowfall on roadways. Widespread blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions will impact the Monday morning commute.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 5 PM MST this afternoon

  • Snow. Additional snow accumulations of 2 to 7 inches. Winds gusting as high as 60 mph.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult. Patchy blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute. Strong winds could cause tree damage.

Louisiana
Flood Watch remains in effect until 11 AM CST Tuesday morning

  • Flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible.
  • Impacts: Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, roadways, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas.

Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect until 12 PM CST Tuesday afternoon

  • Minor coastal flooding expected.
  • Impacts: Flooding of lots, parks, and roads with only isolated road closures expected.

Coastal Flood Warning remains in effect until 11:59 PM CST this evening

  • Significant coastal flooding expected.
  • Impacts: Numerous roads may be closed. Low lying property including homes, businesses, and some critical infrastructure will be inundated.

Wind Advisory remains in effect until 6 PM CST Tuesday evening

  • 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph expected. 
  • Impacts: Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Travel will be impacted, especially for high profile vehicles. 

High Wind Warning remains in effect until 3 AM CST Tuesday morning

  • South winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Damaging winds will blow down trees and power lines. Widespread power outages are expected. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.
