U.S. Weather Update 1.9.25

Summary:
High winds and low relative humidity will continue critical fire weather conditions in southern California through Friday. A significant winter storm will impact the South. Expect 6-8 inches of snow from southeast Oklahoma through western North Carolina. Farther south, snow will transition to sleet/freezing rain, and ice accumulation is possible from the ArkLaTex area through the Southeast. Impacted Lanes: I-84, I-5, I-15, I-10, I-210, I-40, I-25, I-70, I-35, I-44, I-20, I-44, I-30, I-64, I-72, I-49, I-55, I-22, I-65, I-59, I-24, I-71, I-74, I-69, I-77, I-79, I-86, I-81, I-88, I-80, I-91, I-95, I-87


Oklahoma
Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 12:15 PM CST Friday afternoon

  • Heavy mixed precipitation expected. Total snow accumulations of 2 to 6 inches are expected across much of the Warning area, with isolated higher amounts up to 8 inches possible. Ice accumulations up to one third of an inch possible.
  • Impacts: Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will likely become slick and hazardous. The strong winds and weight of snow on tree limbs may down power lines and could cause sporadic power outages. Power outages and tree damage are likely due to the ice. Travel could be nearly impossible. The hazardous conditions could impact the Thursday morning and evening commutes.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 8 AM CST Friday morning

  • Snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 1 and 3 inches with locally higher amounts possible.
  • Impacts: Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the Thursday morning and evening commutes.

California
High Wind Warning remains in effect until 2 PM PST Friday afternoon

  • Northeast winds 30 to 40 mph with gusts to 70 mph. Isolated gusts to 80 mph.
  • Impacts: Damaging winds could blow down trees and power lines. Power outages are possible. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

Wind Advisory remains in effect until 2 PM PST Friday afternoon

  • Northeast winds 20 to 35 mph with gusts up to 55 mph.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

Oregon
Freezing Fog Advisory remains in effect until 11 AM PST this morning

  • Visibility one quarter mile or less in freezing fog.
  • Impacts: Low visibility could make driving conditions hazardous.

Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 10 AM PST this morning

  • Visibility one quarter mile or less in dense fog.
  • Impacts: Low visibility could make driving conditions hazardous.

Wind Advisory remains in effect until 1 AM PST Saturday morning

  • West winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.
