U.S. Weather Update 10.11.23

Summary:
A system in the Great Plains is expected to bring severe thunderstorms and heavy rain across parts of the Central Plains into the Midwest through Thursday. Another system in the Gulf of Mexico will bring some heavy rainfall, minor coastal flooding, and breezy conditions to parts of the central Gulf Coast into the Southeast. A severe weather threat will also exist near the Florida Gulf Coast. Impacted Lanes: I-5, I-10, I-15, I-40, I-17, I-25, I-76, I-70, I-80


Wyoming
Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 6 AM MDT Friday morning

  • Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 18 inches, with the highest peaks approaching 2 feet. Winds gusting as high as 50 mph.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult to impossible. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute. Gusty winds could bring down tree branches.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 6 PM MDT Thursday evening

  • Snow expected. Generally 4 to 8 inches expected above 9,000 feet. Totals around 12 inches across the highest terrain. 4 to 8 inches expected along Highway 28 over South Pass.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult, including along Highway 28 over South Pass.

Louisiana
Coastal Flood Warning remains in effect until 4 PM CDT Thursday afternoon

  • Significant coastal flooding expected.
  • Impacts: Numerous roads may be closed. Low lying property including homes, businesses, and some critical infrastructure will be inundated.

Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect until 4 PM CDT Thursday afternoon

  • Minor coastal flooding expected.
  • Impacts: Flooding of lots, parks, and roads with only isolated road closures expected.

Wind Advisory remains in effect until 6 AM CDT Thursday morning

  • Northeast winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. 

New Mexico
Wind Advisory remains in effect until 8 PM MDT Thursday evening

  • West winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 55 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and power outages may result. Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. 

High Wind Watch remains in effect until 11 PM MDT Thursday evening

  • West winds 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 60 mph possible.
  • Impacts: Damaging winds could blow down trees and power lines. Power outages are possible. Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.
