U.S. Weather Update 10.12.23

Summary:
A low pressure system in the Gulf of Mexico is expected to bring heavy rainfall and severe thunderstorms to north/central Florida and minor coastal flooding across parts of the Gulf Coast. A strong storm system will produce areas of high elevation snow in the Rockies; severe thunderstorms, excessive rainfall, and high winds to the central Plains; and critical fire weather in the southern Plains. Impacted Lanes: I-90, I-25, I-86, I-84, I-15, I-80, I-70, I-29, I-35, I-94, I-95, I-26, I-16, I-75, I-40, I-5


Wyoming
Winter Storm Warming remains in effect until 6 AM MDT Friday morning

  • Heavy snow and gusty winds expected. Total snow accumulations of 6 to 8 inches. Winds gusting as high as 50 mph.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult. Patchy blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute. Strong winds could cause tree damage.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 6 AM MDT Friday morning

  • Snow expected. Total snow accumulations of up to 5 inches. Winds gusting as high as 45 mph.
  • Impacts: Plan on slippery road conditions.

High Wind Watch remains in effect until 11:59 PM MDT this evening

  • Northwest winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 55 mph possible.
  • Impacts: Damaging winds could blow down trees and power lines. Widespread power outages are possible. Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

Kansas
High Wind Warning remains in effect until 1 PM CDT Friday afternoon

  • Northwest winds 30 to 40 mph with gusts around 60 mph expected.
  • Impacts: High winds may move loose debris, damage property and cause power outages. Travel will be difficult especially for high profile vehicles.

Wind Advisory remains in effect until 7 PM CDT this evening

  • South winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 45 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds could blow around unsecured light weight objects. Small tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Travel may be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. 

Louisiana
Coastal Flood Warning remains in effect until 4 PM CDT this afternoon

  • Coastal flooding expected with 1 to 3 feet of inundation expected.
  • Impacts: Numerous roads may be closed. Low lying property including homes, businesses, and some critical infrastructure will be inundated.

Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect until 4 PM CDT this afternoon

  • Minor coastal flooding expected.
  • Impacts: Flooding of lots, parks, and roads with only isolated road closures expected.

Florida
Flood Warning remains in effect until 10:45 AM EDT this morning

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues.
  • Impacts: Streams continue to rise due to excess runoff from earlier rainfall. Expect many areas of slow moving or standing water. Water over roadways. 

Flood Advisory remains in effect until 11:30 AM EDT this morning

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.
  • Impacts: Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Water over roadways. 

Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect until 5 PM EDT this afternoon

  • Minor coastal flooding expected.
  • Impacts: Flooding of lots, parks, and roads with only isolated road closures expected.

Wind Advisory remains in effect until 4 PM EDT this afternoon

  • Southwest winds 20 to 25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph is forecast.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Travel may be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.
