U.S. Weather Update 10.16.23

Summary:
Cooler weather along with a few showers are expected across the eastern third of the country through today. An approaching storm for the Pacific Northwest will track inland and across the northern Plains today into Tuesday; Rainy conditions and strong winds are expected for these areas. For southern portions of Alaska, increasing winds and precipitation are forecast into the middle of the week. Impacted Lanes: I-5, I-90, I-15


Montana
High Wind Warning remains in effect until 9 PM MDT Tuesday evening

  • West winds 35 to 45 mph with gusts up to 70 mph expected.
  • Impacts: High winds may move loose debris, damage property and cause power outages. Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

New Jersey
Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect until 2 PM EDT this afternoon

  • Up to one foot of inundation above ground level in low- lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways.
  • Impacts: At this level, flooding begins on the most vulnerable roads in coastal and bayside communities, and along inland tidal waterways. Some partial or full road closures are possible.

Washington
Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 10 AM PDT this morning

  • Visibility less than one mile in dense fog.
  • Impacts: Hazardous driving conditions due to low visibility.

California
Dense Fog Advisory  remains in effect until 10 AM PDT this morning

  • Visibility one quarter mile or less in dense fog.
  • Impacts: Hazardous driving conditions due to low visibility.

Wind Advisory remains in effect until 3 AM PDT Tuesday morning

  • North winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects and make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result.
