U.S. Weather Update 10.20.23

Summary:
A large ridge of high pressure will once again produce record high temperatures across much of the West toward the central Rockies and southern Plains on Friday. Meanwhile, isolated severe thunderstorms with damaging wind gusts and marginally severe hail are possible across parts of the Southeast, especially in Georgia and South Carolina on Friday. Impacted Lanes: I-5, I-10, I-69, I-45, I-37, I-40


North Carolina
Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect until 3 PM EDT this afternoon

  • Up to one half foot of inundation above ground level expected in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways.
  • Impacts: The lowest portions of USS North Carolina Road and Battleship Road begin to observe minor coastal flooding. Water begins to spread out of storm drains onto Water Street just south of Market Street in downtown Wilmington.

Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 10 AM EDT this morning

  • Visibility one quarter mile or less in dense fog.
  • Impacts: Hazardous driving conditions due to low visibility.

Additional Dense Fog Advisories include but are not limited to: California, Texas, Louisiana, and Mississippi
