U.S. Weather Update 10.24.23

Summary:
A cold weather system will bring moderate snowfall to the northern Rockies and northern High Plains region Tuesday. Winter Storm watches and warnings have been issued and will go into effect for these areas starting Tuesday. Heavy rainfall and flooding as a result of strong to severe thunderstorms will be possible across the southern Plains and Upper Midwest region through Wednesday. Impacted Lanes: I-55, I-12, I-10, I-35, I-40, I-44, I-90, I-5, I-84, I-15, I-94


Washington
Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 5 PM PDT Wednesday evening

  • Heavy snow expected especially elevations above 3000 feet. Total snow accumulations between 8 and 16 inches with locally up to 2 feet above 3000 feet. A half an inch to 4 inches below 3000 feet.
  • Impacts: Travel could be challenging and difficult over mountain passes and high elevation roadways. Theses winter weather conditions will impact the Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning commutes on higher elevation roadways and passes. Low elevation locations and roadways may see seasonal conditions and caution should be taken.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 5 PM PDT Wednesday evening

  • Snow expected especially elevations above 3500 feet. Total snow accumulations between 5 and 10 inches above 3500 feet and 1 to 4 inches below 3500 feet.
  • Impacts: Travel could be challenging and difficult over mountain passes and high elevation roadways. Theses winter weather conditions will impact the Wednesday morning commute on higher elevation roadways and passes.

Texas
Flood Watch remains in effect until 4 PM CDT Thursday afternoon

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible.
  • Impacts: Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Water over roadways. 

Louisiana
Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 10 AM CDT this morning

  • Visibility one quarter mile or less in dense fog.
  • Impacts: Hazardous driving conditions due to low visibility.
