U.S. Weather Update 10.30.23

Summary:
A strong front moving across the Southern Plains through the Ohio Valley will bring sub-freezing temperatures and frost and freeze conditions that may kill crops, other sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing. Red flag and high wind warnings continue across much of California increasing critical fire weather concerns. Impacted Lanes: I-5, I-605, I-37, I-10, I-45, I-69, I-12, I-55, I-59, I-65, I-75, I-95, I-75


Michigan
Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 6 AM EDT Tuesday morning

  • Heavy lake effect snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 2 to 8 inches are forecast tonight with potential for locally higher amounts. The heaviest snow accumulations will be in the higher terrain of the north - central Keweenaw Peninsula between Hancock and Phoenix.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult with heavy snowfall rates reducing visibility and leading to rapidly changing road conditions. The hazardous conditions will impact the Monday evening and Tuesday morning commutes.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 2 PM EDT this afternoon

  • Lake effect snow. Additional snow accumulations of up to 4 inches.
  • Impacts: Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning commute.

California
High Wind Warning remains in effect until 10 PM PDT this evening

  • Northeast winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts to 60 mph.
  • Impacts: Strong winds could damage trees and other objects. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

Wind Advisory remains in effect until 10 PM PDT this evening

  • Northeast winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts to 60 mph.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down. Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. 

Delaware
Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect until 2 PM EDT this afternoon

  • Up to one foot of inundation above ground level expected in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways.
  • Impacts: At this level, flooding begins on the most vulnerable roads in coastal and bayside communities, and along inland tidal waterways. Some partial or full road closures are possible.

Georgia 
Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 10 AM EDT this morning

  • Visibility less than one mile in dense fog.
  • Impacts: Hazardous driving conditions due to low visibility.
