U.S. Weather Update 11.1.23

Summary:
It will be chilly with below normal temperatures across the Eastern half of the U.S. on Wednesday. In fact, widespread record lows are expected from the south-central Plains into the Ohio and Tennessee Valleys in the morning. Meanwhile, elevated to critical fire weather threats are likely in the central Gulf Coast region. Finally, rain will arrive in the Pacific Northwest and may produce flooding. Impacted Lanes: I-80, I-25, I-5, I-79, I-90, I-86, I-76, I-68


Wyoming
High Wind Warning remains in effect until 12 PM MDT this afternoon

  • West winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 60 mph.
  • Impacts: Mainly to transportation. Strong cross winds will be hazardous to light weight or high profile vehicles, including campers and tractor trailers.

High Wind Watch remains in effect until 11:59 PM MDT Thursday evening

  • West winds 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 60 mph possible.
  • Impacts: Mainly to transportation. Strong cross winds will be hazardous to light weight or high profile vehicles, including campers and tractor trailers.

Ohio
Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 10 AM EDT this morning

  • Lake effect snow occurring. Additional snow accumulations of up to two inches. Winds gusting as high as 30 mph near the lakeshore.
  • Impacts: Plan on slippery road conditions. Lake effect snow continues with snowfall rates of up to an inch per hour possible this morning. The highest snowfall accumulations will be expected south of I-90, where temperatures will be cold enough to sustain snow.

Lake Effect Snow Warning remains in effect until 1 PM EDT this afternoon

  • Heavy lake effect snow occurring. Additional snow accumulations of 2 to 4 inches.
  • Impacts: Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the evening commute. A heavy lake effect snow band will continue across Ashtabula County during the pre-dawn hours this morning. Snowfall rates of one inch per hour will occur with this band. The highest snowfall accumulations will be expected south of I-90, where temperatures will be cold enough to sustain snow.

South Carolina
Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect until 1 PM EDT this afternoon

  • Up to one half foot of inundation above ground level expected along shorelines and tidal waterways.
  • Impacts: This could result in some roads becoming impassable.

Louisiana
Wind Advisory remains in effect until 9 AM CDT this morning

  • North winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 35 mph.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.
