U.S. Weather Update 11.18.24

Summary:
A powerful storm is expected to bring periods of heavy rain, gusty winds, and the potential for severe thunderstorms throughout the southern to central Plains through Monday. Widespread precipitation and heavy mountain snow is expected across the Northwest and northern Rockies through Monday. Up to a foot of snow is possible across the higher elevations of the Cascades and northern Rockies. Impacted Lanes: I-5, I-40, I-90, I-84, I-86, I-15, I-80, I-94, I-27, I-10, I-35, I-20, I-44, I-70, I-72, I-29, I-43, I-41, I-55, I-57, I-64, I-96, I-75, I-95


Washington
Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 10 PM PST this evening

  • Heavy snow above 2000 feet. Additional snow accumulations of 10 to 15 inches, locally higher near the crest line. Winds gusting as high as 35 mph.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult to impossible. The hazardous conditions could impact the Monday morning and evening commutes.

Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect until 10 AM PST this morning

  • Minor coastal flooding expected. Inundation of around 2 feet above ground level is possible along shorelines and low- lying coastal areas.
  • Impacts: Minor coastal flooding due to tidal overflow is expected around high tide. This may lead to flooding of parking lots, parks, and roads, with only isolated road closures expected.

Flood Watch remains in effect until 4 PM PST Wednesday afternoon

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible.
  • Impacts: Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Water over roadways is possible. 

Texas
High Wind Warning remains in effect until 11 PM MST this evening

  • West winds 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 70 mph.
  • Impacts: Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles like campers, vans, and tractor trailers.

Wind Advisory remains in effect until 5 PM CST this evening

  • Westerly winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 45 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects and a few power outages may result. Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect until 10 PM CST this evening

  • Minor coastal flooding expected.
  • Impacts: Flooding of lots, parks, and roads with only isolated road closures expected.

Coastal Flood Warning remains in effect until 10 PM CST this evening

  • Significant coastal flooding expected.
  • Impacts: Numerous roads may be closed. Low lying property including some critical infrastructure may be inundated.

Flood Advisory remains in effect until 12:15 PM CST this afternoon

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues.
  • Impacts: Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Ponding of water in urban or other areas is expected. Water will be over some roadways. 

Flood Warning remains in effect until 6 PM CST this afternoon

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues.
  • Impacts: Moderate flooding is imminent or occurring. Water will be over roadways and numerous roads will be closed. 

Flood Watch remains in effect until 12:15 PM CST this afternoon

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible.
  • Impacts: Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. Water over roadways is possible. 

Idaho
Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 8 PM MST this evening

  • Moderate to heavy snow. Additional snow accumulations of 4 to 9 inches with closer to a foot on the highest peaks. Gusty winds could lead to blowing and drifting snow.
  • Impacts: Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the Monday morning and evening commutes.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 8 PM MST this evening

  • Snow. Additional snow accumulations between 2 and 4 inches. Winds gusting as high as 45 mph could lead to blowing and drifting snow.
  • Impacts: Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the Monday morning and evening commutes.

Michigan
Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 10 AM EST this morning

  • Visibility one quarter mile or less in dense fog.
  • Impacts: Low visibility could make driving conditions hazardous.
