U.S. Weather Update 11.26.24

Summary:
Heavy snow will continue in the Sierra Nevada Mountains and flash flooding is possible in the lower elevations of the southern Sierra Nevada. Moderate to heavy snow is expected from the Intermountain West into the central Rockies and across the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. A brief period of freezing rain is expected Tuesday morning in portions of the Northeast. Impacted Lanes: I-40, I-26, I-5, I-80, I-15, I-84, I-70, I-76, I-25, I-10, I-75, I-88, I-90, I-87, I-89, I-91, I-93, I-95


Colorado 
Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 11:59 PM MST Wednesday evening

  • Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 12 and 24 inches with locally higher amounts up to 36 inches possible. Winds gusting as high as 35 mph.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult to impossible. The hazardous conditions could impact the Tuesday morning and evening commutes.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 12:15 PM MST Wednesday afternoon

  • Snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 8 and 16 inches. Winds gusting as high as 40 mph.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult to impossible. The hazardous conditions could impact the Tuesday morning and evening commutes.

High Wind Warning remains in effect until 5 PM MST this evening

  • West winds 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 65 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Damaging winds could blow down trees and power lines. Widespread power outages may be possible. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

Oregon
Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 11 AM PST this morning

  • Areas of fog, with visibility dropping to a quarter mile or less in dense fog.
  • Impacts: Low visibility could make driving conditions hazardous.

California
Wind Advisory remains in effect until 9 PM PST this evening

  • Southwest winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph expected especially near mountains and higher terrain.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 4 PM PST Wednesday afternoon

  • Heavy snow Sierra Nevada above 7000 feet. Additional snow accumulations up to 30 inches. Winds gusting as high as 50 mph.
  • Impacts: Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will likely become slick and hazardous. Travel could be very difficult to impossible. Areas of blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions could impact the Tuesday morning and evening commutes.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 10 AM PST Wednesday morning

  • Snow expected above 7000 feet. Total snow accumulations between 8 and 14 inches, higher amounts possible near the peaks.
  • Impacts: Roads will likely become slick and hazardous. Travel could be very difficult at times.

Flood Advisory remains in effect until 11 AM PST this morning

  • Urban and small stream flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.
  • Impacts: Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Rises in small streams and normally dry arroyos. Ponding of water in urban or other areas is occurring or is imminent. Water is over roadways.
