U.S. Weather Update 11.4.24

Summary:
Scattered severe thunderstorms, associated with tornadoes, large hail, and wind damage, are likely through Monday night from the Southern Plains into the Ozarks and mid Mississippi Valley. An Enhanced Risk (level 3 of 5) has been issued. Heavy mountain snow is expected to impact the higher terrain of the Pacific Northwest, Intermountain West, and Rockies for much of this week. Impacted Lanes: I-90, I-40, I-26, I-84, I-5, I-15, I-94, I-10, I-70, I-25, I-20, I-35, I-45, I-49, I-55, I-44, I-95


Arkansas
Flash Flood Warning remains in effect until 10:30 AM CST this morning

  • Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.
  • Impacts: Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas.

Flood Advisory remains in effect until 9:15 AM CST this morning

  • Urban and small stream flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.
  • Impacts: Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Water over roadways.

Flood Watch remains in effect until 6 AM CST Tuesday morning

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible. Rainfall amounts of 2 to over 6 inches will be possible, which may lead to river and flash flooding.
  • Impacts: Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Water over roadways is possible. 

Wind Advisory remains in effect until 7 PM CST this evening

  • South winds 20 to 25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

Montana
Blizzard Warning remains in effect until 8 AM MST Tuesday morning

  • Blizzard conditions expected. Total snow accumulations between 2 and 5 inches below 5000 feet, with 5 to 14 inches possible above 5000 feet. Winds gusting as high as 80 mph.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult and tire chains may be required for some vehicles. Widespread blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. Very strong winds could cause extensive damage to trees and power lines.

Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 5 PM MST Tuesday evening

  • Heavy snow expected above 4000 feet. Likelihood of major impacts from 6 to 10 inches or more of snow is 100 percent, and 10 to 18 inches of snow is 40 percent. Winds gusting as high as 45 mph.
  • Impacts: For MAJOR impacts from snow, expect considerable disruptions to normal activities. Dangerous or impossible traveling conditions. Avoid travel in the impacted areas if possible. The hazardous conditions could impact the Monday evening and Tuesday morning commutes, especially over higher passes. Gusty winds could bring down tree branches.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 5 PM MST Tuesday evening

  • Snow expected above 4000 feet. Likelihood of moderate impacts from 3 to 6 inches of snow is greater than 90 percent, and up to a 50 percent chance of isolated major impacts from 6 to 10 inches or more of snow. Winds gusting as high as 45 mph.
  • Impacts: For MODERATE impacts from snow, expect disruptions to normal activities. Use extra caution while driving. These conditions could impact the Monday evening and Tuesday morning commutes, especially over higher passes. Gusty winds could bring down tree branches.

High Wind Warning remains in effect until 11 PM MST Tuesday evening

  • West to northwest winds 25 to 35 mph, with gusts up to 60 mph expected.
  • Impacts: High winds may move loose debris, damage property and cause power outages. Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

Wind Advisory remains in effect until 9 AM MST Tuesday morning

  • Southwest winds 30 to 40 mph with gusts to 60 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Strong crosswinds will make travel difficult along Interstate 90 and other roads.

Louisiana
Flood Warning remains in effect until 12:15 PM CST Thursday afternoon

  • Minor flooding is forecast.
  • Impacts: Minor flooding occurs with water entering some structures on canals and along the river. Roads becomes inaccessible, up to 1 feet water depth on numerous roads. 

Coastal Flood Warning remains in effect until 6 AM CST Tuesday morning

  • Significant coastal flooding expected.
  • Impacts: Numerous roads may be closed. Low lying property including some critical infrastructure will be inundated.

Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect until 6 PM CST this evening

  • Minor coastal flooding of around 1 to 2 feet above normally dry ground.
  • Impacts: Minor flooding of lots, parks, and roads with only isolated road closures expected.

Wind Advisory remains in effect until 4 PM CST this afternoon

  • Southeast winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 35 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

Minnesota
Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 10 AM CST this morning

  • Visibility one quarter mile or less in dense fog.
  • Impacts: Low visibility could make driving conditions hazardous.
