U.S. Weather Update 12.1.23

Summary:
A long-duration winter storm will impact the Northwest through the weekend. The coastal ranges and lower elevations of the Cascades will have moderate to heavy rain, and periods of heavy snow will impact many mountain passes. Scattered storms and heavy rains may produce localized flash flooding across the central Gulf Coast into the Southeast and Hawaii. Impacted Lanes: I-90, I-5, I-84, I-86, I-15, I-80, I-40, I-25, I-10, I-35, I-45


New Mexico
Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 6 AM MST Saturday morning

  • Heavy snow. Additional snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult. Tire traction will be reduced. Extend the distance between your vehicle and the vehicle in front of you. This includes along portions of I-40 and U.S. 550. The hazardous conditions could impact the Friday morning and evening commutes.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 6 AM MST Saturday morning

  • Snow. Additional snow accumulations between 1 and 2 inches.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult to impossible. Check road conditions before heading out. The hazardous conditions could impact the Friday morning and evening commutes.

Wyoming
High Wind Warning remains in effect until 2 AM MST Tuesday morning

  • West winds 35 to 45 mph with gusts up to 70 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Mainly to transportation. Strong cross winds will be hazardous to light weight or high profile vehicles, including campers and tractor trailers.

Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 11 PM MST Sunday evening

  • Heavy mountain snow and blowing snow possible. Total snow accumulations of 10 to 20 inches expected, with isolated maximum amounts of 2 to 3 feet possible in the Sierra Madres.
  • Impacts: Mountain travel could become extremely dangerous or impossible due to icy, snow packed roads and near zero visibilities in falling and blowing snow.

Arkansas
Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 9 AM CST this morning

  • Visibility less than one mile in dense fog.
  • Impacts: Hazardous driving conditions due to low visibility.

California
Wind Advisory  remains in effect until 9 AM PST Saturday morning

  • Northwest winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 55 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects and make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result.
