U.S. Weather Update 12.12.23

Summary:
Lake-effect snow will develop downwind from the Great Lakes through Wednesday. A strong storm will impact Alaska with heavy precipitation and high winds. Impacted Lanes: I-80, I-84, I-82, I-5, I-680, I-280, I-15, I-25, I-75, I-90, I-81


Wyoming
Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 12 PM MST this afternoon

  • A mix of snow and freezing drizzle through Tuesday morning. Areas of dense freezing fog expected. Total snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches and ice accumulations of a light glaze.
  • Impacts: Plan on slippery road conditions. Reduced visibility in fog, with fog becoming more widespread with visibility down to near zero at times. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning commute. 

Freezing Fog Advisory remains in effect until 2 PM MST this afternoon

  • Visibility less than one quarter mile in freezing fog. Occasional freezing drizzle mixed with snow.
  • Impacts: Periods of freezing drizzle and light snow, combined with very low visibility and freezing fog, will result in hazardous travel conditions this morning across southeast Wyoming. Please use extra caution over the Interstate 80 Summit and bridges.

Oregon
Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 10 AM PST this morning

  • Visibility one quarter mile or less in dense fog.
  • Impacts: Hazardous driving conditions due to low visibility.

New York 
Wind Advisory remains in effect until 6 PM EST this evening

  • Southwest winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 10 PM EST Wednesday evening

  • Lake effect snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 4 to 6 inches.
  • Impacts: Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the evening commute tonight and the morning commute Wednesday.
