U.S. Weather Update 12.2.24

Summary:
Arctic air will continue below normal temperatures across the eastern half of the U.S. through Tuesday with heavy lake effect snow continuing downwind of the Great Lakes. High pressure over the western half of the U.S. will support mainly dry weather for much of the region with above normal temperatures this week. Impacted Lanes: I-40, I-5, I-84, I-80, I-15, I-94, I-96, I-75, I-90, I-79, I-86, I-81


Michigan
Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 1 AM EST Tuesday morning

  • Heavy Lake Effect Snow. Widespread snow accumulations of 2-4 inches expected with amounts of 8-12 inches likely where the heaviest bands set up.
  • Impacts: Visibility and road conditions may change rapidly over short distances in lake effect snow. Travel could be very difficult. The hazardous conditions could impact the Monday morning and evening commutes.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 1 AM EST Tuesday morning

  • Snow. Additional snow accumulations up to 3 inches.
  • Impacts: Visibility and road conditions may change rapidly over short distances in lake effect snow.

Pennsylvania 
Lake Effect Snow Warning remains in effect until 7 PM EST Tuesday evening

  • Heavy lake effect snow. Additional snow accumulations between 8 and 15 inches for much of the county. Locally higher amounts up to 20 inches is possible in far northeastern Erie County where a persistent Lake Huron connection is expected to persist.
  • Impacts: Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will likely become slick and hazardous. Visibilities may drop below 1/4 mile due to falling and blowing snow. Whiteout conditions are expected and will make travel treacherous and potentially life-threatening. Travel could be very difficult. The hazardous conditions could impact the Monday morning and evening commutes.

Montana
High Wind Warning remains in effect until 11 AM MST Tuesday morning

  • West winds 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 60 mph over the high plains and 75 mph along the immediate eastern slopes of the Rocky Mountain Front.
  • Impacts: Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

Oregon
Freezing Fog Advisory remains in effect until 11 AM PST this morning

  • Visibility less than one half mile locally less than one quarter mile.
  • Impacts: Low visibility will make driving conditions hazardous. Slick road conditions may also develop especially on bridges and overpasses.

Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 11 AM PST this morning

  • Visibility one quarter mile or less in dense fog.
  • Impacts: Low visibility could make driving conditions hazardous.
