Summary:
If you are looking for fresh snow by Christmas morning or are curious about potential travel disruptions, the best chances for at least 1" of new snowfall early this week exist across the mountainous West, Great Lakes, and Northeast. Otherwise, temperatures this last full week of December will average above normal for much of the lower 48 states. Impacted Lanes: I-5, I-82, I-84, I-80, I-15, I-20, I-94, I-29, I-40, I-35, I-43, I-39, I-41, I-90, I-96, I-75, I-79, I-68, I-70, I-95, I-76, I-81, I-89, I-91, I-93


California
Coastal Flood Warning remains in effect until 12:15 PM PST Tuesday afternoon

  • Significant coastal flooding expected.
  • Impacts: Numerous roads may be closed, and some critical infrastructure will be inundated.

High Wind Warning remains in effect until 10 AM PST Wednesday morning

  • West winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 60 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Damaging winds will blow down trees and power lines. Widespread power outages are expected. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

Wind Advisory remains in effect until 11:59 PM PST Tuesday evening

  • West winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 60 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 7 PM PST Tuesday evening

  • Snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 6 to 10 inches above 6,000 feet. Isolated amounts up to 16 inches at elevations above 8,000 feet. Winds gusting as high as 50 mph.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult to impossible. The hazardous conditions could impact the Tuesday morning and evening commutes.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 7 PM PST Tuesday evening

  • Snow above 6000 feet with accumulations of 1 to 5 inches. Snow accumulations up to 8 inches along the highest peaks. Ridge winds gusting as high as 40 mph.
  • Impacts: Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact holiday travel as well as the Tuesday morning and evening commutes.

Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 9 AM PST this morning

  • Visibility one quarter mile or less in dense fog.
  • Impacts: Low visibility could make driving conditions hazardous.
