U.S. Weather Update 12.30.24

Summary:
Combination of strong winds, dry conditions and above normal temperatures will result in elevated to critical fire weather concerns for the Southern Plains and portions of Southern California. This is part of a storm system that is tracking across the central Plains with occasional snow showers and heavier snow from the Rockies through the Central/Northern Plains. Impacted Lanes: I-25, I-40, I-90, I-5, I-84, I-82, I-15, I-80, I-94, I-70, I-76, I-29, I-44, I-37, I-35, I-10, I-69, I-45, I-49, I-55, I-12, I-59, I-22, I-30, I-95, I-75, I-4, I-16, I-86


Montana
Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 5 PM MST this evening

  • Heavy snow. Additional snow accumulations up to 3 inches. Winds gusting as high as 40 mph.
  • Impacts: Plan on slippery road conditions.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 11 AM MST this morning

  • Mixed precipitation. Additional snow accumulations up to two inches and ice accumulations around a light glaze.
  • Impacts: Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will likely become slick and hazardous. Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the Monday morning commute.

New Mexico
High Wind Warning remains in effect until 5 PM MST this evening

  • West to northwest winds 35 to 45 mph with gusts up to 60 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Damaging winds could blow down trees and power lines. Power outages are possible. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles, including portions of I-25 and I-40.

Wind Advisory remains in effect until 5 PM MST this evening

  • West winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds may blow around unsecured objects. Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

New York
Flood Warning remains in effect until 1 PM EST this afternoon

  • Flooding caused by rain and/or snowmelt and/or ice jam is expected.
  • Impacts: Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Depending on ice behavior, any release of the ice jam could result in sudden rises of water, leading to a rapid flooding situation.

High Wind Warning remains in effect until 4 PM EST this afternoon

  • Southwest winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 60 mph expected. The strongest winds will be this morning.
  • Impacts: Strong winds will blow down trees and power lines. Scattered power outages are expected. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

 Wind Advisory remains in effect until 7 PM EST this evening

  • Southwest winds 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 50 mph. The strongest winds will be this afternoon and early evening.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

North Carolina
Flood Advisory remains in effect until 11 PM EST this evening

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.
  • Impacts: Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Water over roadways.

Florida
Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 10 AM EST this morning

  • Visibility one quarter to one half mile in dense fog.
  • Impacts: Low visibility could make driving conditions hazardous.
