Areas of heavy snow and gusty winds will continue over the Great Lakes, central Appalachians, and Upstate New York overnight into Friday before another fast moving clipper arrives with more snow this weekend. Below normal temperatures will remain in place across much of the southern and eastern U.S. on Friday while the western U.S. sees above normal temperatures. Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 4 PM EST Saturday afternoon
- Heavy lake effect snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 9 and 18 inches.
- Impacts: Visibilities may drop below 1/4 mile due to falling and blowing snow. Travel could be very difficult to impossible. The hazardous conditions could impact the Friday evening commute.
Lake Effect Snow Warning remains in effect until 1 PM EST Saturday afternoon
- Heavy snow. Additional snow accumulations 10 to 19 inches.
- Impacts: Travel will be very difficult. The hazardous conditions will impact the evening commute today.
Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 4 PM EST Saturday afternoon
- Lake effect snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 4 and 8 inches.
- Impacts: Travel could be very difficult. The hazardous conditions could impact the Friday evening commute. The highest totals are expected to be along and north of Interstate 90.
Montana
High Wind Warning remains in effect until 2 PM MST Sunday afternoon
- West winds 30 to 50 mph with gusts up to 85 mph expected.
- Impacts: Damaging winds may blow down trees and power lines. Power outages are possible. Travel could be very difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.
Wind Advisory remains in effect until 5 PM MST Sunday evening
- Southwest winds 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 60 mph expected.
- Impacts: Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Strong crosswinds will make travel difficult along Interstate 90 from Livingston to Big Timber and roads along the Beartooth Foothills.
Freezing Fog Advisory remains in effect until 11 AM MST this morning
- Visibility to one quarter mile in freezing fog.
- Impacts: Low visibility could make driving conditions hazardous. Watch out for black ice, particularly on bridges.
