U.S. Weather Update 12.7.23

Summary:
A storm system will shift into the Rockies and High Plains into Friday, bringing strong winds and snow to mountainous terrain. Record high temperatures may occur across the Great Plains and Upper Midwest today. This weekend, Pacific moisture will bring heavy rain and high elevation snow to the Pacific Northwest, and severe thunderstorms will impact the Southern Plains and Lower Mississippi Valley. Impacted Lanes: I-5, I-90, I-80, I-15, I-94, I-76, I-380, I-95, I-295, I-81


Wyoming
Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 5 PM MST Friday evening

  • Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 12 to 18 inches in the Gros Ventre mountains and Teton Pass. Total snow accumulations of 20 to 30 inches in the Teton Mountains. Winds gusting as high as 45 mph Thursday afternoon. 
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult to impossible. Patchy blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions will impact the morning or evening commute.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 5 PM MST Friday evening

  • Snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 3 to 6 inches. Winds gusting as high as 40 mph Thursday afternoon.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute.

High Wind Warning remains in effect until 5 PM MST this afternoon

  • Southwest winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 60 mph expected.
  • Impacts: The high winds may blow down large trees and damage roofs, small outbuildings, and signs. Power outages are possible. Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Strong winds can cause blowing dust, reduced visibility, and flying debris.

Oklahoma
Wind Advisory remains in effect until 6 PM CST this evening

  • South winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 45 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.
