U.S. Weather Update 2.17.25

Summary:
Arctic air will spread across much of the central U.S. into New England this week resulting in record-breaking cold and life threatening wind chill temperatures. Heavy snow will move from the northern Rockies to the central Plains by early Tuesday. A swath of significant snow and ice will likely move from the central Plains to the Mid-Atlantic states Tuesday through early Thursday. Impacted Lanes: I-5, I-90, I-82,  I-84, I-15, I-80, I-94, I-25, I-76, I-70, I-29, I-35, I-44, I-49, I-40, I-64, I-65, I-75, I-71, I-96, I-77, I-79, I-81, I-95, I-88, I-87, I-89, I-91, I-93


Pennsylvania 
Blizzard Warning remains in effect until 3 PM EST this afternoon

  • Blizzard conditions. Additional snow accumulations between 1 and 3 inches. Winds gusting as high as 50 mph.
  • Impacts: Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the Monday morning commute. Gusty winds could bring down tree branches.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 3 PM EST this afternoon

  • Snow and blowing snow. Additional accumulations up to two inches. Winds gusting as high as 60 mph.
  • Impacts: Plan on slippery road conditions and hazardous travel conditions. The visibility will be significantly reduced in snow and blowing snow. Very strong winds could cause extensive damage to trees and power lines.

High Wind Warning remains in effect until 7 PM EST this evening

  • West winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 60 mph.
  • Impacts: Damaging winds will blow down trees and power lines. Widespread power outages are expected. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

Wind Advisory remains in effect until 6 PM EST this evening

  • West winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

Wyoming
Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 5 AM MST Tuesday morning

  • Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 1 and 2 feet with higher amounts expected above 10000 feet in elevation. Winds gusting as high as 50 mph.
  • Impacts: Visibilities may drop below 1/4 mile due to falling and blowing snow. Travel will be very difficult.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 5 PM MST Tuesday afternoon

  • Periods of snow. Additional snow accumulations of 2 to 4 inches, greatest over the higher hills.
  • Impacts: Plan on slippery road conditions and areas of poor visibility. The hazardous conditions could impact commutes today and Tuesday.

New York
Lake Effect Snow Warning remains in effect until 6 AM EST Wednesday morning

  • Heavy lake effect snow. Additional snow accumulations between 6 to 15 inches along and south of interstate 90, including the City of Utica. Additional snow accumulations between 15 to 28 inches north of interstate 90, including Rome, Camden, Florence and Sylvan beach. Lesser snow amounts between 5 to 10 inches are expected over the northeast corner of Oneida county, including the Boonville and Woodgate areas. Winds gusting between 40 to 60 mph today will create significant blowing and drifting snow.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult to impossible. Areas of blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions could impact the Monday morning and evening commutes. Strong winds could cause tree damage.

  • Lake Effect Snow. Total snow accumulations of 3 to 6 inches. Winds gusting as high as 55 mph.
  • Impacts: Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning and evening commutes today. Strong winds could cause tree damage.

Kentucky
Flood Advisory remains in effect until 11:59 AM EST this morning

  • Small stream flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues.
  • Impacts: Low lying areas flood. Water is over roadways. 

Flood Warning remains in effect until 5 PM EST this evening

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues.
  • Impacts: Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Numerous roads remain closed due to flooding. Low-water crossings are inundated with water and may not be passable. Expect many areas of slow moving or standing water.
