U.S. Weather Update 2.18.25

Summary:
Arctic air will spread across much of the central U.S. into New England this week resulting in record-breaking cold and life threatening wind chill temperatures. Heavy snow will move from the northern Rockies to the central Plains by early Tuesday. A swath of significant snow and ice will likely move from the central Plains to the Mid-Atlantic states Tuesday through early Thursday. Impacted Lanes: I-90, I-84, I-82,  I-5, I-15, I-94, I-24, I-80, I-76, I-70, I-35, I-29, I-40, I-44, I-55, I-30, I-20, I-22, I-65, I-59, I-75, I-24, I-81, I-77, I-85, I-95, I-69, I-64, I-71, I-79, I-91, I-89, I-93


Missouri
Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 11:59 PM CST this evening

  • Heavy snow. Additional snow accumulations between 3 and 8 inches from north to south.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult. The hazardous conditions could impact the Tuesday morning and evening commutes.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 6 AM CST Wednesday morning

  • Snow. Additional snow accumulations between 1 and 5 inches.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult. The hazardous conditions could impact the Tuesday morning and evening commutes.

New York
Lake Effect Snow Warning remains in effect until 6 AM EST Wednesday morning

  • Heavy lake effect snow. Additional snow accumulations up to 2 feet in the most persistent lake snows. Winds gusting as high as 35 mph.
  • Impacts: Travel will be very difficult to impossible. Areas of blowing snow will significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions will impact today's morning and evening commutes.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 1 PM EST Wednesday afternoon

  • Lake effect snow. Additional snow accumulations 4 to 8 inches in the most persistent lake snows. Winds gusting as high as 35 mph.
  • Impacts: Travel will be difficult. The hazardous conditions will impact today's morning and evening commutes.

Wind Advisory remains in effect until 5 PM EST this evening

  • West winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 50 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

Massachusetts
High Wind Warning remains in effect until 5 PM EST this evening

  • West winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts between 50 and 60 mph.
  • Impacts: Damaging winds will blow down trees and power lines. Power outages are possible. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

 Wind Advisory remains in effect until 5 PM EST this evening

  • West winds 15 to 30 mph with gusts between 45 and 55 mph.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and some power outages may result. Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

Idaho
Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 9 AM MST this morning

  • Visibility one quarter mile or less in dense fog.
  • Impacts: Low visibility could make driving conditions hazardous.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 9 AM MST this morning

  • Snow. Likelihood of developing or ongoing minor impacts from heavy snow rates and a flash freeze of surfaces. Additional snow accumulations between 1 and 4 inches.
  • Impacts: Winter traveling conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the Tuesday morning commutes, especially over higher passes.

Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 9 AM MST this morning

  • Heavy snow. Likelihood of developing or ongoing major to extreme impacts from 6 to 10 inches or more of snow is 70 percent, and 10 to 18 inches of snow is less than 10 percent.
  • Impacts: Dangerous or impossible traveling conditions. Avoid travel in the impacted areas if possible. Widespread closures and disruptions to infrastructure may occur. The hazardous conditions could impact the Tuesday morning commutes, especially over higher passes.
