U.S. Weather Update 2.20.25

Summary:
An arctic air mass will continue over the Central U.S. this week with widespread, record-breaking cold temperatures through Friday. Snow and ice accumulations, heavy in places, will impact portions of the Eastern U.S. from the Ohio River Valley to the Mid-Atlantic states and Carolinas through Thursday morning. Impacted Lanes: I-5, I-90, I-15, I-84, I-80, I-70, I-25, I-94, I-75, I-64, I-65, I-77, I-79, I-40, I-81, I-85, I-26, I-95, I-76


Montana
Blizzard Warning remains in effect until 5 AM MST Saturday morning

  • Ground blizzard conditions expected. Total snow accumulations up to two inches near the Continental Divide. Winds gusting as high as 65 mph.
  • Impacts: Significant reductions in visibility and the potential for impassable roadways due to blowing and drifting snow will make travel difficult to impossible. 

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 5 AM MST Saturday morning

  • Blowing and drifting snow expected. Winds gusting as high as 45 mph.
  • Impacts: The hazardous conditions could impact the Thursday and Friday morning and evening commutes. Gusty winds could bring down tree branches. Blowing and drifting snow will create reductions in visibility, potential for slippery roads, and partial roadway blockages.

Kentucky
Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 1 PM EST this evening

  • Heavy snow. Additional snow accumulations up to two inches for most areas, with locally higher accumulations in and near the mountains.
  • Impacts: Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the Thursday morning commute.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 1 PM EST this evening

  • Snow. Additional snow accumulations up to two inches.
  • Impacts: Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the Thursday morning commute.

Flood Warning remains in effect until further notice

  • Moderate flooding is occurring and major flooding is forecast.
  • Impacts: Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Numerous roads remain closed due to flooding. Low-water crossings are inundated with water and may not be passable.

Flood Advisory remains in effect until 1 AM EST Saturday morning

  • Elevated river levels caused by excessive rainfall are expected.
  • Impacts: Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas with water over roadways. Ponding of water in urban or other areas is occurring or is imminent.

California
Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 9 AM PST this morning

  • Visibility one quarter mile or less in dense fog.
  • Impacts: Low visibility could make driving conditions hazardous.

Wind Advisory remains in effect until 12:15 PM PST this afternoon

  • North winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.
