U.S. Weather Update 2.27.25

Summary:
A clipper type system will track across the Northeast today, with a stronger system expected for this first weekend of March. Snow accumulations are expected for portions of the Great Lakes region and New England. Winds will also become gusty across most of the eastern two-thirds of the country this weekend. These winds and low humidity may increase fire weather concerns for portions of the Plains Impacted Lanes: I-94, I-15, I-10, I-8, I-5, I-80, I-90, I-45, I-69, I-49, I-12, I-55, I-59, I-81, I-91, I-93, I-95


Minnesota 
Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 12:15 PM CST Friday afternoon

  • Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 4 and 9 inches.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult. The hazardous conditions could impact the Friday morning commute.

Montana
High Wind Warning remains in effect until 6 PM MST this evening

  • West winds 35 to 45 mph, with gusts up to 80 mph along the Rocky Mountain Front, and up to 70 mph over the plains.
  • Impacts: Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

Wind Advisory remains in effect until 3 AM MST Friday morning

  • Southwest winds with gusts up to 60 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Strong crosswinds will make travel difficult along Interstate 90. Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

Flood Advisory remains in effect until 3 PM MST Friday afternoon

  • Small stream flooding caused by rain and snowmelt and ice jam continues.
  • Impacts: Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Rises in small streams and normally dry coulees. Water over roadways. 

Flood Watch remains in effect until 4 PM MST Sunday afternoon

  • Potential flooding caused by an ice jam is possible.
  • Impacts: Ice jams and lingering run-off may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, roadways, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations.

Louisiana
Flood Warning remains in effect until 9 PM CST this evening

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues.
  • Impacts: Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Water over roadways. 

Flood Advisory remains in effect until 7 AM CST Monday morning 

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues.
  • Impacts: Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Ponding of water in urban or other areas is occurring or is imminent.

Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 10 AM CST this morning 

  • Visibility one quarter mile or less in dense fog.
  • Impacts: Low visibility could make driving conditions hazardous.

Arizona
Wind Advisory remains in effect until 5 PM MST this evening

  • Southeast winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Difficult driving conditions, especially for larger vehicles traveling along roads with crosswinds. Light, unsecured objects may become airborne.

Blowing Dust Advisory remains in effect until 8 PM MST this evening

  • Southeast winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 45 mph. These winds will produce areas of blowing dust reducing visibility to between one half to 3 miles...with localized dense blowing dust channels reducing visibility to between one quarter and one half mile.
  • Impacts: Dense blowing dust channels along Interstate-10 may rapidly reduce visibility for motorists to below a quarter mile at times. Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down. Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

Maine
Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 7 PM MST this evening

  • Snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 3 and 5 inches.
  • Impacts: Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the Thursday evening commute.
