Summary:
A strong clipper system will move southward across the Great Lakes and into the Northeast throughout the weekend. Strong winds are expected from the Plains through the Great Lakes and Ohio Valley, with the potential for any fires that initiate to spread rapidly due to dry conditions. Meanwhile, accumulating snow is anticipated in the Great Lakes and Northeast. Impacted Lanes: I-94, I-80, I-25, I-29, I-90, I-35, I-39, I-43, I-55, I-65, I-74, I-70, I-69, I-64, I-71, I-75, I-96, I-81, I-87, I-95


Michigan
Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 4 AM EST Saturday morning

  • Heavy, wet snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 6 and 8 inches, with localized amounts in excess of 10 inches possible. Winds gusting as high as 40 mph along the shores of Lake Superior.
  • Impacts: Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will likely become slick and hazardous. Visibilities may drop below 1/4 mile due to falling and blowing snow. The strong winds and weight of snow on tree limbs may down power lines and could cause sporadic power outages. Travel could be very difficult. Areas of blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions could impact the Friday morning and evening commutes.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 10 PM EST this evening

  • Accumulating wet snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 4 and 7 inches.
  • Impacts: Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will likely become slick and hazardous. Plan on slippery road conditions. Areas of blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions could impact the Friday morning and evening commutes.

Wind Advisory remains in effect until 5 PM EST this evening

  • Southwest winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 45 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

North Dakota
High Wind Warning remains in effect until 5 PM CST this evening

  • Northwest winds 40 to 50 mph with gusts up to 70 mph expected.
  • Impacts: High winds may move loose debris, damage property and cause power outages. Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

Wind Advisory remains in effect until 5 PM CST this evening

  • Northwest winds 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 60 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. 

Flood Warning remains in effect until 11 PM MST Tuesday evening

  • Flooding caused by an ice jam is expected.
  • Impacts: Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is expected. Depending on ice behavior, any release of the ice jam could result in sudden rises of water, leading to a rapid flooding situation. Flooding is expected in low-lying areas and over some roadways. 

Montana
Flood Advisory remains in effect until 10 PM MST this evening

  • Small stream flooding caused by rain and snowmelt and ice jam continues.
  • Impacts: Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Rises in small streams and normally dry coulees. Water over roadways. 

Flood Watch remains in effect until 4 PM MST Sunday afternoon

  • Potential flooding caused by an ice jam is possible.
  • Impacts: Ice jams and lingering run-off may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, roadways, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations.
