U.S. Weather Update 3.18.25

Summary:
A strong spring storm will bring high winds and extremely critical fire weather to parts of the southern Plains Tuesday, then heavy snow and possible blizzard conditions from the central Plains to the Upper Midwest on Wednesday. Impacted Lanes: I-5, I-84, I-90, I-94, I-8, I-25, I-80, I-29, I-35, I-40, I-10, I-15, I-70, I-76, I-44, I-49, I-65, I-81


Nebraska
Blizzard Warning remains in effect until 1 PM CDT Wednesday afternoon

  • Blizzard conditions expected. Total snow accumulations up to 3 inches. Winds gusting as high as 60 mph.
  • Impacts: Whiteout conditions are expected and will make travel treacherous and potentially life-threatening. Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the Wednesday morning commute. Strong winds could cause tree damage.

Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 2 PM CDT Wednesday afternoon

  • Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 2 and 3 inches. Northerly winds 30 to 40 mph gusting as high as 60 mph.
  • Impacts: Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the Wednesday morning commute. Strong winds could cause tree damage.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 6 AM CDT Wednesday morning

  • Snow and blowing snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 2 and 5 inches, with the higher amounts along the Pine Ridge. Winds gusting as high as 45 mph.
  • Impacts: Areas of blowing snow could reduce visibility and lead to slick road conditions.

High Wind Warning remains in effect until 7 PM CDT Wednesday evening

  • North winds 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 60 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Damaging winds will blow down trees and power lines. Widespread power outages are expected. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

Tennessee
Flood Warning remains in effect until 10:15 AM CDT Wednesday morning

  • Minor flooding is occurring and minor flooding is forecast.
  • Impacts: Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Low-water crossings are inundated with water and may not be passable. Expect many areas of slow moving or standing water.

Flood Advisory remains in effect until further notice

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues.
  • Impacts: Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Water over roadways. 

New Mexico
High Wind Warning remains in effect until 9 PM MDT this evening

  • West winds 35 to 45 mph with gusts up to 65 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Damaging winds could blow down trees and power lines. Widespread power outages are possible. Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

Blowing Dust Advisory remains in effect until 9 PM MDT this evening

  • Visibility between one-quarter and one mile in blowing dust expected.
  • Impacts: Hazardous driving conditions due to reduced visibility.

Wind Advisory remains in effect until 7 PM MDT this evening

  • West winds 30 to 35 mph with gusts up to 55 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs may be blown down. Expect strong crosswinds on area roadways. Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.
