U.S. Weather Update 3.7.25

Summary:
A storm system will continue to bring areas of heavy snow, gusty to high winds, and critical fire weather from the Sierras through the central and southern Plains through Friday. A locally critical fire weather threat will exit over a portion of the Mid-Mississippi Valley. Gusty winds are expected into Friday along the Appalachians through the Mid-Atlantic and into New England. Impacted Lanes: I-40, I-10, I-8, I-25, I-80, I-84, I-70, I-76, I-29, I-35, I-39, I-90, I-94, I-41, I-88, I-95, I-81, I-78, I-87, I-91, I-89, I-93


New Mexico
Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 11 AM MST Saturday morning

  • Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 4 and 10 inches except between 10 and 18 inches above 9,500 feet in the Sangre de Cristo mountains.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult to impossible. The hazardous conditions could impact the Friday evening commute. Areas of blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 11 AM MST Saturday morning

  • Snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 2 and 5 inches.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult. This includes along portions of I-25. The hazardous conditions could impact the Friday evening commute.

High Wind Warning remains in effect until 11 PM MST this evening

  • West winds 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 65 mph.
  • Impacts: Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

Blowing Dust Advisory remains in effect until 7 PM MST this evening

  • Southwest winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph expected. Visibility between one-quarter and one-mile in blowing dust expected.
  • Impacts: Hazardous driving conditions due to reduced visibility. Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

Mississippi
Flood Warning remains in effect until 6 PM CST Saturday evening

  • Minor flooding is occurring and minor flooding is forecast.
  • Impacts: Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Streams continue to rise due to continuous rainfall. Low-water crossings are inundated with water and may not be passable.

Flood Advisory remains in effect until Tuesday, March 11th. 

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues.
  • Impacts: Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Water over roadways and ponding of water on roadways is occurring or is imminent.

New Jersey
Wind Advisory remains in effect until 4 PM EST this afternoon

  • West winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts of 40 to 50 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.
