U.S. Weather Update 4.12.23

Summary:
Isolated severe thunderstorms may produce heavy rainfall and localized flooding to parts of the Gulf Coast and the Southeast through Thursday. Dry and windy conditions may produce widespread elevated fire weather conditions across portions of the High Plains and central Plains into the Midwest and the Northeast. Impacted Lanes: I-10, I-12, I-55, I-310, I-59, I-15, I-90


Montana 
Flood Advisory remains in effect until 6 PM MDT this evening

  • Flooding caused by snowmelt continues.
  • Impacts: Water over roadways.

Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 11:59 PM MDT Thursday evening

  • Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 4 and 8 inches at lower elevations, with 8 to 12 inches over mountain passes, with higher amounts above pass level.
  • Impacts: Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will likely become slick and hazardous. Travel could be difficult and visibility at times could be below one half mile. Isolated power outages possible due to the heavy wet snow.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 11:59 PM MDT Thursday evening

  • Wet snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 2 and 6 inches.
  • Impacts: Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will likely become slick and hazardous. The hazardous conditions could impact the Thursday morning commute.

California
Wind Advisory remains in effect until 5 AM PDT Thursday morning

  • Northwest winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects and make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result.

Louisiana 
Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect until 7 AM CDT Thursday morning

  • Minor coastal flooding between 1 and 2 feet above normal tide expected. 
  • Impacts: Flooding of lots, parks, and roads with only isolated road closures expected.

Coastal Flood Warning remains in effect until 7 AM CDT Thursday morning

  • Coastal flooding of between 1 and 3 feet above normal high tide expected. 
  • Impacts: Numerous roads may be closed. Low lying property including homes, businesses, and some critical infrastructure may be inundated.

Flood Warning remains in effect until further notice

  • Minor flooding is occurring and minor flooding is forecast.
  • Impacts: Water over roads is possible.
