U.S. Weather Update 4.21.25

Summary:
A storm system shifting across the Great Lakes will bring light to moderate snow over parts of region today. Further south, scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected along and ahead of a cold front from Michigan to east Texas. Gusty winds and dry conditions will produce elevated to critical fire weather over the central High Plains today. Red Flag Warnings have been issued. Impacted Lanes: I-25, I-15, I-84, I-86, I-80, I-35, I-40, I-44, I-49, I-70, I-55, I-90


Texas
Flash Flood Warning remains in effect until 9 AM CDT this morning

  • Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.
  • Impacts: Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas.

Flood Advisory remains in effect until 10 AM CDT this morning

  • Urban and small stream flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.
  • Impacts: Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Ponding of water in urban or other areas is occurring or is imminent. Water is over roadways. 

Flood Warning remains in effect until 6:30 AM CDT Tuesday morning

  • Moderate flooding is occurring and moderate flooding is forecast.
  • Impacts: Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Water is over roadways. 

Wyoming
High Wind Warning remains in effect until 6 PM MDT this evening

  • West winds 25 to 40 mph with gusts up to 65 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Mainly to transportation. Strong cross winds will be hazardous to light weight or high profile vehicles, including campers and tractor trailers.

California
Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 9 AM PDT this morning

  • Visibility less than one mile in dense fog.
  • Impacts: Low visibility could make driving conditions hazardous.

Idaho
WInd Advisory remains in effect until 9 PM MDT this evening

  • Southwest winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds could make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Unsecured objects may be blown around. Blowing dust may reduce visibility, especially along Interstate 15 north of Idaho Falls.
