U.S. Weather Update 4.28.23

Summary:
A strong cold front will produce severe storms capable of very large hail and locally heavy rain across a wide swath of south and eastern Texas, including Dallas-Fort Worth, and into Oklahoma. Gusty winds will keep fire weather threats elevated to critical across the desert Southwest. Locally heavy rain also possible in the Mid-Atlantic with isolated strong storms in the Southeast to Mid-Atlantic. Impacted Lanes: I-29, I-94, I-35, I-20, I-27, I-40, I-25, I-44, I-49, I-55, I-69


Texas
Wind Advisory remains in effect until 8 PM CDT this evening

  • North winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Blowing dust will lower visibility locally creating difficult travel conditions.

High Wind Warning remains in effect until 1 AM CDT Saturday morning 

  • Northeast winds 35 to 45 mph with gusts up to 65 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

Colorado
Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 3 PM MDT this afternoon

  • Snow. Additional snow accumulations of up to two inches. Winds gusting as high as 45 mph.
  • Impacts: Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning commute. Gusty winds could bring down tree branches.

Wind Advisory remains in effect until 9 AM MDT this morning

  • North winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 55 mph.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down. Travel may be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. 

Mississippi
Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 9 AM CDT this morning

  • Visibility one to two miles in dense fog.
  • Impacts: Hazardous driving conditions due to low visibility.

North Dakota
Flood Warning remains in effect until 4 PM CDT this afternoon

  • Flooding caused by snowmelt continues.
  • Impacts: Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, roadways, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring.

Nevada
Flood Advisory remains in effect until 3 PM MDT this afternoon

  • Ponding of water in low-lying areas and small stream flooding caused by snowmelt continues.
  • Impacts: Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Streams and creeks running high. Water over a few roadways.
