U.S. Weather Update 4.7.23

Summary:
A slow moving front continues to produce heavy rain that could cause flash flooding in the central Gulf Coast. Dry, gusty winds are producing fire weather threats in the Plains and Northeast. In the Pacific Northwest, a fast moving system will bring several inches of high elevation and blowing snow across the West. Locally heavy thunderstorms may cause flooding in Puerto Rico, and Yap and Palau. Impacted Lanes: I-20, I-49, I-10, I-35, I-45, I-12, I-55, I-59, I-22, I-65, I-75, I-40, I-24, I-80, I-5, I-84, I-90


California
Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 2 PM PDT this afternoon

  • Snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 2 to 8 inches, locally higher amounts on mountain peaks. Winds gusting as high as 40 mph.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning commute.

Louisiana 
Flood Warning remains in effect until 11 PM CDT Saturday evening

  • Minor flooding is forecast.
  • Impacts: Roadways near rivers become impassable as rivers rise. 

Flood Watch remains in effect until 6 PM CDT this evening

  • Flash Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible.
  • Impacts: Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations such as highly urbanized locations with poor drainage.

Florida 
Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 11AM EDT this morning

  • Visibility to one quarter mile or less in dense fog.
  • Impacts: Hazardous driving conditions due to low visibility.

Maine
Wind Advisory remains in effect until 2 PM EDT this afternoon

  • West winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Strong winds may blow down limbs, trees, and powerlines. Isolated to scattered power outages may result. Travel may be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. 

North Carolina
Flash Flood Warning remains in effect until 10:15 AM EDT this morning

  • Life threatening flash flooding. Thunderstorms producing flash flooding.
  • Impacts: Life threatening flash flooding of creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses.

Flood Advisory remains in effect until 10:45 AM EDT this morning

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.
  • Impacts: Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, roads, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring.

Additional Flood Warnings include but are not limited to: Indiana, Illinois, Arkansas, Tennessee and Mississippi

Additional Flood Watches include but are not limited to: Texas and Nevada

Additional Dense Fog Advisories include but are not limited to: Georgia and Alabama
