U.S. Weather Update 5.17.24

Summary:
Heavy to excessive rainfall is forecast for eastern Louisiana into central Alabama which could bring flash, urban, and riverine flooding Friday. Scattered severe thunderstorms with a few tornadoes, very large hail, and damaging winds are possible across parts of the Gulf Coast States Friday and Friday night. Impacted Lanes: I-90, I-84, I-86, I-15, I-94, I-44, I-40, I-37, I-10, I-69, I-49, I-55, I-59, I-65, I-57, I-81


Idaho
Wind Advisory remains in effect until 5 PM PDT this evening

  • West winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph. Localized gusts to 50 mph possible.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. 

High Wind Warning remains in effect until 8 PM MDT this evening

  • West winds 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 60 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Isolated damage to trees, powerlines, signs, and outbuildings is expected, along with isolated power outages. Loose outdoor objects will be blown around. Areas of blowing dust may reduce visibilities.

Mississippi

Flood Warning remains in effect until further notice

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues.
  • Impacts: Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Numerous roads remain closed due to flooding.

Flood Watch remains in effect until 1 PM CDT Saturday afternoon

  • Flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible.
  • Impacts: Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas.

Flood Advisory remains in effect until 7 PM CDT Saturday evening

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues.
  • Impacts: Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Water is over roadways. 

Flash Flood Warning remains in effect until 11:30 AM CDT this morning

  • Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.
  • Impacts: Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas.

Oklahoma
Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 10 AM CDT this morning

  • Visibility one quarter to one half mile in dense fog.
  • Impacts: Visibilities are expected to be reduced to less than one quarter mile by dense fog. Rapidly changing visibility will create hazardous driving conditions.
