U.S. Weather Update 5.20.24

Summary:
A developing storm across the Plains will bring rounds of severe weather for center of the nation the next couple of days. In addition, increasing temperatures and winds with low humidity values will raise wildfire concerns for portions of the Southwest. These temperatures may set new records for southern Texas this week. The northern Great Basin and northern Rockies, cooler conditions arrives. Impacted Lanes: I-81, I-66, I-70, I-68, I-90, I-35, I-10


Montana
Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 12:15 PM MDT Tuesday afternoon

  • Heavy wet snow expected. Total snow accumulations up to 14 inches.
  • Impacts: Heavy wet accumulating snow may make travel difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. 

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 6 PM MDT Tuesday evening

  • Snow. Snow accumulations of 6 to 12 inches, with locally heavier accumulations above 9000 feet.
  • Impacts: Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. 

Flood Watch remains in effect until 6 AM MDT Friday morning

  • Flooding caused by rain and snowmelt continues to be possible.
  • Impacts: Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Water over roadways is possible. 

Kansas
Flood Warning remains in effect until 10:30 AM CDT this morning

  • Flooding caused by Sunday evening's excessive rainfall is expected.
  • Impacts: Flooding of various creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is likely. Some roads and low-water crossings will likely remain flooded.

Florida
Flood Advisory remains in effect until 10:30 AM EDT this morning

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.
  • Impacts: Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Water over roadways.
     

Flood Warning remains in effect until 5 PM EDT Friday afternoon

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues.
  • Impacts: Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Numerous roads remain closed due to flooding.

Virginia
Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 10:30 AM EDT this morning

  • Visibility one quarter mile or less in dense fog.
  • Impacts: Low visibility could make driving conditions hazardous.

Arizona
Wind Advisory remains in effect until 8 PM MDT this evening

  • Southwest winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts 45 to 55 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could snap resulting in a few power outages. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Patchy blowing dust will lead to reduced visibilities, resulting in hazardous driving conditions at times.
