U.S. Weather Update 5.28.24

Summary:
Widespread strong to severe storms are expected over much of Texas and in southern Oklahoma Tuesday, with potential for significant damaging wind and large hail. An Enhanced Risk (level 3 of 5) has been issued for central Texas. The threat of excessive rainfall could create localized areas of flash and urban flooding across Texas and southern Oklahoma Tuesday into Wednesday. Impacted Lanes: I-20, I-30, I-35, I-45, I-44, I-90, I-94, I-95


Texas
Flash Flood Warning remains in effect until 9 AM CDT this morning

  • Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.
  • Impacts: Flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets, and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low lying areas.

Flood Advisory remains in effect until 9 AM CDT this morning

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.
  • Impacts: Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Water over roadways. 

Flood Warning remains in effect until 1 PM CDT Saturday afternoon

  • Moderate flooding is occurring and moderate flooding is forecast.
  • Impacts: Moderate lowland flooding begins as roads are closed due to the water.

Virginia
Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect until 10 AM EDT this morning

  • Up to one foot of inundation above ground level in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways.
  • Impacts: Shallow flooding is expected in the most vulnerable locations near the waterfront and shoreline. Expect up to one foot of water above ground level in low lying, vulnerable areas. Some roads and low lying property near the waterfront will experience shallow flooding.

Maine
Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 10 AM EDT this morning

  • Visibility of a quarter-mile or less in dense fog.
  • Impacts: Low visibility could make driving conditions hazardous.

California
Wind Advisory remains in effect until 8 AM PDT Wednesday morning

  • Northwest winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Travel will be difficult, particularly for high profile vehicles. Blowing dust will reduce visibilities at times.
