U.S. Weather Update 5.31.24

Summary:
Strong to severe thunderstorms are expected across parts of the Southern Plains into the Lower Mississippi Valley and Gulf Coast Friday afternoon and evening. Large hail and severe wind gusts are the primary threats. Additional storms are expected in the Central High Plains and the Mid-Mississippi Valley Friday. An approaching system on Sunday for Pacific Northwest may bring heavy rain and winds. Impacted Lanes: I-90, I-80, I-76, I-35, I-29, I-70, I-10, I-45, I-20, I-30, I-40, I-55


Kansas
Flash Flood Warning remains in effect until 11 AM CDT this morning

  • Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.
  • Impacts: Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas.

Flood Warning remains in effect until 10 AM CDT this morning

  • Urban area and small stream flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues.
  • Impacts: Streams continue to rise due to excess runoff from earlier rainfall. Low-water crossings are inundated with water and may not be passable.

Flood Advisory remains in effect until 12:15 PM CDT this afternoon

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.
  • Impacts: Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Water over roadways is expected or occurring. 

Louisiana 
Flood Watch remains in effect until 1 AM CDT Saturday morning

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible.
  • Impacts: Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. Water is expected over roadways.
