U.S. Weather Update 6.20.24

Summary:
The heat wave is expected to peak in the eastern Great Lakes and New England today, and the Ohio Valley and Mid-Atlantic Friday into the weekend. Widespread daily record high temperatures are likely. Heavy to excessive rainfall will be associated with thunderstorms forecast to move across parts of the northern Plains and Upper Midwest today into Friday. Impacted Lanes: I-10, I-20, I-90, I-29, I-94, I-35, I-43, I-80, I-70


New Mexico
Flash Flood Warning remains in effect until 8:45 AM MDT this morning

  • Life threatening flash flooding. Thunderstorms producing flash flooding.
  • Impacts: Life threatening flash flooding of creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses.

Wind Advisory remains in effect until 3 AM MDT Friday morning

  • East and southeast winds 20 to 35 mph with gusts up to 55 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs may be blown down. Expect strong crosswinds on area roadways. Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. 

Flood Watch remains in effect until 11 PM MDT this evening

  • Flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible.
  • Impacts: Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. Low-water crossings may be flooded. Water over roadways. 

Louisiana
Coastal Flood Warning remains in effect until 4 PM CDT this afternoon

  • Significant coastal flooding.
  • Impacts: Numerous roads may be closed. Low lying property including homes, businesses, and some critical infrastructure will be inundated.

Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect until 6 PM CDT Friday evening

  • Minor coastal flooding.
  • Impacts: Flooding of lots, parks, and roads with only isolated road closures expected. Water over roadways is expected. 

Flood Warning remains in effect until 3 PM CDT Saturday afternoon

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues.
  • Impacts: Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Numerous roads remain closed due to flooding.

Missouri
Flash Flood Warning remains in effect until 9 AM CDT this morning

  • Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.
  • Impacts: Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas.

Flood Advisory remains in effect until 10 AM CDT this morning

  • Urban and small stream flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.
  • Impacts: Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Rises in small streams and normally dry arroyos. Water over roadways.
