U.S. Weather Update 6.5.24

Summary:
Areas of heavy rain and strong winds are ongoing in the Northwest. Showers and severe thunderstorms over parts of the Upper/Middle Mississippi Valley and Central Plains may produce damaging gusts, large hail, and localized areas of flash flooding. A heat wave will impact the southwest U.S. and California Central Valley. Impacted Lanes: I-94, I-90, I-15, I-29, I-35, I-20, I-45, I-49


Texas
Flash Flood Warning remains in effect until 9 AM CDT this morning

  • Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.
  • Impacts: Flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets, and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low lying areas.

Flood Advisory remains in effect until 9 AM CDT this morning

  • Urban and small stream flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.
  • Impacts: Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Overflowing poor-drainage areas. River or stream flows are elevated. Water is over roadways.

Flood Watch remains in effect until 9 PM CDT this evening

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible.
  • Impacts: Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. Extensive street flooding and flooding of creeks and rivers are possible. Area creeks and streams are running high and could flood with more heavy rain.

Flood Warning remains in effect until 9 PM CDT this evening

  • Minor flooding is occurring and minor flooding is forecast.
  • Impacts: Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, roadways, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Streams continue to rise due to excess runoff from earlier rainfall.

Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect until 1 PM CDT this afternoon

  • Minor coastal flooding.
  • Impacts: Flooding of lots, parks, and roads with only isolated road closures expected.

Wyoming
High Wind Warning remains in effect until 6 PM MDT this evening

  • West winds 35 to 45 mph with gusts up to 65 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Mainly to transportation. Strong cross winds will be hazardous to light weight or high profile vehicles, including campers and tractor trailers.

North Dakota
Wind Advisory remains in effect until 9 PM CDT this evening

  • West winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

Additional High Wind Warnings  include but are not limited to: Montana, and North Dakota

Additional Wind Advisories include but are not limited to: Idaho, Montana, South Dakota, Minnesota, and Iowa
