U.S. Weather Update 8.16.24

Summary:
A prolonged period of hot temperatures remains on tap for the southern U.S over the next few days. In some areas, high temperatures are forecast to climb into the triple digits. A series of storms will bring strong winds and coastal impacts including rip currents to portions of interior Alaska and along the western Coast. Meanwhile, elevated fire weather conditions will be possible in Nevada. Impacted Lanes: I-44, I-55, I-29, I-70, I-71, I-77, I-80, I-90, I-75


Missouri
Flood Warning remains in effect until 12:15 PM CDT this afternoon

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues.
  • Impacts: Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, roadways, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring.

Flash Flood Warning remains in effect until 8:15 AM CDT this morning

  • Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.
  • Impacts: Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas.

Flood Advisory remains in effect until 8:15 AM CDT this morning

  • Urban and small stream flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.
  • Impacts: Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Water over roadways.

Oregon
Flash Flood Watch remains in effect until 2 AM PDT Sunday morning

  • Flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible.
  • Impacts: Heavy rainfall could trigger flash flooding of low-lying areas and urbanized street flooding. 

Maine
Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 10 AM EDT this morning

  • Visibility of a quarter mile or less in dense fog.
  • Impacts: Low visibility could make driving conditions hazardous.

Additional Flood Advisories include but are not limited to: Indiana, Kentucky, and South Carolina

Additional Flash Flood Watches include but are not limited to: Washington

Additional Dense Fog Advisories include but are not limited to: Minnesota, and Wisconsin
