U.S. Weather Update 8.19.24

Summary:
Isolated severe thunderstorms with damaging winds will be possible across several areas. Flash flooding is possible across portions of the Mid-Atlantic into the Northeast and Southwest into the Intermountain West. Dangerous heat will persist across the Southern Plains. Dry and windy conditions may create fire weather conditions across portions of the Great Basin. Impacted Lanes: I-30, I-20, I-49, I-90, I-81, I-95


New York
Flood Warning remains in effect until 10:30 AM EDT this morning

  • Ongoing flooding caused by excessive rainfall.
  • Impacts: Numerous roads remain closed due to flooding. Expect many areas of standing water. Isolated sinkholes are possible. In addition, flooding along creeks, streams, ponds, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is possible.

Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect until 11:59 PM EDT this evening

  • Up to 1 1/2 foot of inundation above ground level expected in vulnerable areas near the waterfront and shoreline.
  • Impacts: Minor flooding is expected in the most vulnerable locations near the waterfront and shoreline. Expect up to 1 1/2 foot of inundation above ground level in low lying, vulnerable areas. Some roads and low lying property near the waterfront will experience shallow flooding.

Arkansas
Flood Advisory remains in effect until 9 AM CDT this morning

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.
  • Impacts: Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Water over roadways. 

Maine
Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 10 AM EDT this morning

  • Visibility of a quarter-mile or less in dense fog.
  • Impacts: Low visibility could make driving conditions hazardous.

Additional Flood Advisories include but are not limited to: Oklahoma

Additional Coastal Flood Advisories include but are not limited to: Maryland, New Jersey, Delaware, Pennsylvania, and North Carolina
