U.S. Weather Update 9.18.24

Summary:
Heavy to excessive rainfall is forecast across portions of Montana Wednesday, along with an isolated flash flooding threat. A Slight Risk of Excessive Rainfall (level 2 of 4) is in effect for central Montana. Impacted Lanes: I-90, I-15, I-94, I-64, I-95, I-66, I-70, I-270, I-83, I-76, I-495, I-395


Montana
Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 6 PM MDT this evening

  • Heavy wet snow occurring at high elevations. Snow accumulations of 12 to 18 inches above 10000 feet. Winds gusting as high as 50 mph will cause blowing and drifting snow on the highest peaks.
  • Impacts: Driving conditions will be impacted by heavy accumulating snow and strong winds at elevations above 10000 feet. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. 

High Wind Warning remains in effect until 9 PM MDT this evening

  • West winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 45-60 mph expected.
  • Impacts: High winds could make travel difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

Flood Advisory remains in effect until 9 AM MDT this morning

  • Minor flooding caused by excessive rainfall.
  • Impacts: Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Rises in small streams and normally dry coulees. Ponding of water in urban or other areas is likely. Water over roadways is expected. 

Wind Advisory remains in effect until 9 PM MDT this evening

  • West winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 45-60 mph expected.
  • Impacts: High winds could make travel difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

Flood Watch remains in effect until 6 AM MDT Thursday morning

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible.
  • Impacts: Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Water may be over roadways. 

Florida
Coastal Flood Warning remains in effect until 5 AM EDT Thursday morning

  • Moderate and minor tidal flooding. 
  • Impacts: Numerous roads may be closed. Low lying property will be inundated.

Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect until 5 AM EDT Thursday morning

  • Minor coastal flooding. 
  • Impacts: Some roads may be closed. Low lying property will be inundated.

Flood Warning remains in effect until 8 AM EDT Thursday morning

  • Minor flooding is occurring and minor flooding is forecast.
  • Impacts: Flooding of low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Water is over roadways. 

California
Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 8 PM PDT Thursday evening

  • Snow accumulations up to an inch possible above 8500 feet, and 2 to 4 inches above 9000 feet. Locally greater amounts possible on the highest peaks of the Sierra and White Mountains.
  • Impacts: Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will likely become slick and hazardous. Plan on slippery road conditions.

Massachusetts
Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 10 AM EDT this morning

  • Visibility less than one mile in dense fog.
  • Impacts: Low visibility could make driving conditions hazardous.
