U.S. Weather Update 9.27.23

Summary:
A series of cold fronts have been moving into the Northwest that will continue to bring below average temperatures and rain to the area. Heavy rain could cause flooding in the Ohio Valley and Florida. Thunderstorms producing a few strong gusts or marginally severe hail will be possible across parts of the Ohio Valley. Impacted Lanes: I-80, I-180, I-39, I-55, I-57, I-64, I-95, I-295, I-10


Illinois 
Flash Flood Warning remains in effect until 10:15 AM CDT this morning

  • Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.
  • Impacts: Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas.

Virginia 
Coastal Flood Warning remains in effect until 11:59 PM EDT this evening

  • One to two feet of inundation above ground level expected in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways.
  • Impacts: Widespread flooding of vulnerable areas will result in an elevated threat of property damage to homes and businesses near the waterfront and shoreline. Water will be 1 to 2 feet above ground level in some areas resulting in a sufficient depth to close numerous roads and threaten homes and businesses. Flooding will extend inland from the waterfront along tidal rivers and bays resulting in some road closures and flooding of vehicles.

Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect until 1 AM EDT Thursday morning

  • Up to one foot of inundation above ground level in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways.
  • Impacts: Shallow flooding is expected in the most vulnerable locations near the waterfront and shoreline resulting in a low threat of property damage. Expect up to one foot of water above ground level in low lying, vulnerable areas. Some roads and low lying property including parking lots, parks and lawns near the waterfront will experience shallow flooding.

California
Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 9 AM PDT this morning

  • Visibility one-quarter mile or less in dense fog.
  • Impacts: Hazardous driving conditions due to low visibility.

Wind Advisory remains in effect until 5 AM PDT Thursday morning

  • Northwest to north winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts of 45 to 55 mph expected. Isolated gusts of 55 to 60 mph possible in wind-prone areas.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects and make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result.

Florida
Flood Watch remains in effect until 11 PM EDT this evening

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible.
  • Impacts: Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. Water over roadways is possible.
