U.S. Weather Update 9.28.23

Summary:
A cold low pressure system continues to send a series of cold fronts through the Northwest and into California with rain and higher elevation snow. A stationary front in Florida combined with ample moisture will produce areas of heavy rain that could cause flooding. An upper level system will produce locally heavy rain in the Ohio Valley. Impacted Lanes: I-24, I-65, I-40, I-75, I-64, I-70, I-77


Kentucky
Flash Flood Warning remains in effect until 12:30 PM CDT this afternoon

  • Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.
  • Impacts: Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas.

Flood Watch remains in effect until 2 PM EDT this afternoon

  • Flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible.
  • Impacts: Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, roadways,  and other low-lying and flood-prone locations.

Flood Advisory remains in effect until 9:45 AM CDT this morning

  • Minor flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.
  • Impacts: Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Some low-water crossings may become impassable.

Virginia
Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect until 1 AM EDT Friday morning

  • Up to one foot of inundation above ground level expected in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways.
  • Impacts: Shallow flooding is expected in the most vulnerable locations near the waterfront and shoreline resulting in a low threat of property damage. Expect up to one foot of water above ground level in low lying, vulnerable areas. Some roads and low lying property including parking lots, parks and lawns near the waterfront will experience shallow flooding.

Coastal Flood Warning remains in effect until 11:59 PM EDT this evening

  • One to two feet of inundation above ground level in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways.
  • Impacts: Widespread flooding of vulnerable areas will result in an elevated threat of property damage to homes and businesses near the waterfront and shoreline. Water will be 1 to 2 feet above ground level in some areas resulting in a sufficient depth to close numerous roads and threaten homes and businesses. Flooding will extend inland from the waterfront along tidal rivers and bays resulting in some road closures and flooding of vehicles.

Indiana
Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 10 AM EDT this morning

  • Visibility less than one mile in dense fog.
  • Impacts: Hazardous driving conditions due to low visibility.

Additional Coastal Flood Advisories include but are not limited to: New York, Connecticut, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida

Additional Dense Fog Advisories include but are not limited to: South Dakota, Iowa, Minnesota, Illinois, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Missouri
