U.S. Weather Update 9.30.24

Summary:
A Moderate Risk (level 3 of 4) of Excessive Rainfall is forecast for portions of central Virginia. Heavy rainfall may lead to areas of flash flooding. Dry fuels and windy conditions will support elevated to critical fire weather conditions from the Intermountain West to portions of the northern Great Plains. Red Flag Warnings have been issued from Washington to Nebraska. Impacted Lanes: I-90, I-29, I-94, I-65, I-85, I-59, I-20, I-22, I-55, I-40, I-77, I-64, I-95, I-79


Montana
High Wind Warning remains in effect until 6 PM MDT this evening

  • Northwest winds 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 60 mph expected.
  • Impacts: High winds may move loose debris, damage property, and cause power bumps. Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

Virginia 
Flood Warning remains in effect until 2 PM EDT this afternoon

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected. 
  • Impacts: Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Water over roadways. 

Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect until 2 AM EDT Tuesday morning

  • Up to one foot of inundation above ground level in low- lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways.
  • Impacts: Shallow flooding is expected in the most vulnerable locations near the waterfront and shoreline. Expect up to one foot of water above ground level in low lying, vulnerable areas. Some roads and low lying property will experience shallow flooding.

Flood Watch remains in effect until 11 PM EDT this evening

  • Flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible.
  • Impacts: Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Water may be over roadways. 

South Carolina
Flood Advisory remains in effect until 11 AM EDT Tuesday morning

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues.
  • Impacts: Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Water over roadways.

Flood Warning remains in effect until 7:30 PM EDT Tuesday evening

  • Minor flooding is occurring and moderate flooding is forecast.
  • Impacts: Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Water over roadways. 

Alabama
Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 9 AM CDT this morning

  • Visibility one quarter mile or less in dense fog.
  • Impacts: Low visibility could make driving conditions hazardous.

South Dakota
Wind Advisory remains in effect until 3 PM MDT this afternoon

  • Northwest winds 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 55 mph.
  • Impacts: Sudden wind gusts can cause drivers to lose control, especially in lightweight or high profile vehicles. Strong winds can cause blowing dust, reduced visibility, and flying debris.
