A powerful winter storm will bring heavy snow, strong winds, and blizzard conditions from the mid-Missouri Valley, Midwest to the Great Lakes through Saturday. Behind this system, dangerous frigid temperatures are likely across the Rockies and Plains through this weekend. Severe thunderstorms are possible across the Southeast today, with strong winds, hail and a few tornadoes possible. Impacted Lanes: I-84, I-80, I-86, I-90, I-15, I-40, I-25, I-37, I-10, I-69, I-45, I-12, I-59, I-55, I-22, I-69, I-62, I-44, I-57, I-65, I-64, I-75, I-71, I-96, I-94, I-35, I-88, I-95, I-5


Iowa
Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 9 AM CST Saturday morning

  • Heavy snow. Additional snow accumulations of 5 to 11 inches. Winds gusting as high as 40 mph this afternoon and evening producing blowing and drifting snow in open areas. 
  • Impacts: Travel will be very difficult. Blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility with localized whiteouts possible. Sporadic power outages could occur. The hazardous conditions will impact the morning and evening commutes.

Blizzard Warning remains in effect until 11:59 PM CST Saturday evening

  • Blizzard conditions expected. Total snow accumulations of up to 1 inch Saturday. Winds gusting as high as 45 mph.
  • Impacts: Plan on slippery road conditions today and plan on dangerous road condition once blizzard conditions develop. Widespread blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute.

New Jersey
Flood Warning remains in effect until 11:59 PM EST Sunday evening

  • Major flooding is occurring and major flooding is forecast. 
  • Impacts: Water is over roadways.

Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect until 2 PM EST Saturday afternoon

  • Up to one foot of inundation above ground level expected in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways.
  • Impacts: Flooding begins on the most vulnerable roads in coastal and bayside communities, and along inland tidal waterways. Some partial or full road closures are possible.

Coastal Flood Warning remains in effect until 7 PM EST Saturday evening

  • One to two feet of inundation above ground level expected in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways.
  • Impacts: Widespread roadway flooding occurs in coastal and bayside communities and along inland tidal waterways. Many roads become impassable.

Wind Advisory remains in effect until 6 AM EST Saturday morning

  • Southeast winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. 

Kentucky 
High Wind Warning remains in effect until 7 PM EST this evening

  • Wind gusts this morning will gradually increase in intensity, peaking this afternoon and early evening. Widespread gust over 50 mph expected, with sporadic gusts of 58 mph or more this afternoon and early evening. Gusts for much of the overnight hours will range from 40 to 50 mph. 
  • Impacts: Damaging winds will blow down trees and power lines. Power outages are expected. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

Wind Advisory remains in effect until 7 AM EST Saturday morning 

  • Expect southeast to south winds of 15 to 30 mph with gusts of 35 to 50 mph to develop this morning and continue into the afternoon, with isolated higher gusts possible. For this evening and tonight, southwest winds of 15 to 30 mph, with widespread gusts of 40 to 50 mph.
     
  • Impacts: Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

Missouri
Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 12:15 PM CST this afternoon

  • Mixed precipitation. Additional ice accumulations of a light glaze. Winds gusting as high as 40 mph.
  • Impacts: Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute. Gusty winds could bring down tree branches.

Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 9 PM CST this evening

A winter storm will emerge into the Plains Thursday, producing heavy snow, strong winds, and frigid temperatures from the Central Plains to the Great Lakes into Friday. A very cold airmass will move into the Rockies and Northwest. Temperatures are forecast to be 20 to more than 40 degrees below normal from the Northwest into the Plains by Friday. Flooding concerns continue for the Northeast.   • Impacts: Plan on hazardous road conditions. Whiteout conditions will cause dangerous travel. Strong winds could cause damage.

Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 11 PM MST Saturday evening

  • Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 5 to 10 inches. Winds gusting as high as 45 mph tonight and Friday.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult. Areas of blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 5 PM MST Friday evening

  • Snow expected. Total snow accumulations of up to two inches. Winds gusting as high as 45 mph.

Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 10 AM CST this morning

  • Visibility one quarter mile or less in dense fog.
  • Impacts: Driving on area roadways may become difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles. Poor driving conditions are expected due to reduced visibility.

Wind Advisory remains in effect until 12 PM CST Friday noon

  • Northwest winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Unsecured outdoor items may be blown around in the wind. Driving on area roadways may become difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles.

High Wind Warning remains in effect until 8 AM CST Friday morning

  • West winds 35 to 50 mph with gusts up to 75 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Damaging winds may blow down trees and power lines. Power outages are possible. Blowing dust may reduce visibility.

New York
Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 6 PM EST this evening

  • Lake effect snow expected. Additional snow accumulations of 2 to 4 inches with the highest amounts in the Florence, Ava, and Boonville areas. There will be a sharp cutoff to an inch or so just to the south. 
  • Impacts: Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute.

Lake Effect Snow Warning remains in effect until 1 AM EST Friday morning

  • Heavy lake effect snow. Additional snow accumulations of 4 to 8 inches in the most persistent lake snows across the Tug Hill Plateau. Accumulations across surrounding lower elevations will be 2 to 4 inches.
  • Impacts: Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute.

Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 4 AM PST Sunday morning

  • Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 20 to 36 inches. Winds gusting as high as 45 mph.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult to impossible. Widespread blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute. Strong winds could cause tree damage.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 12 PM PST noon today 

  • Snow expected. Total snow accumulations 1 to 3 inches with locally up to 6 inches on the Camas Prairie. Winds gusting as high as 45 mph.

Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect until 3 PM PST this afternoon

  • Minor coastal flooding expected. Inundation of 2 feet above ground level is possible along shorelines and low-lying coastal areas around the time of high tide.
  • Impacts: Minor coastal flooding due to tidal overflow is expected around high tide. This may lead to flooding of parking lots, parks, and roads, with only isolated road closures expected.

Virginia
Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect until 12 PM EST noon today

  • Up to one foot of inundation above ground level in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways.
  • Impacts: Shallow flooding is expected in the most vulnerable locations near the waterfront and shoreline resulting in a low threat of property damage. Expect up to one foot of water above ground level in low lying, vulnerable areas. Some roads and low lying property including parking lots, parks and lawns near the waterfront will experience shallow flooding.
     

Coastal Flood Warning remains in effect until 7 PM EST this evening

  • One to two feet of inundation above ground level in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways.
  • Impacts: Widespread flooding of vulnerable areas will result in an elevated threat of property damage to homes and businesses near the waterfront and shoreline. Water will be 1 to 2 feet above ground level in some areas resulting in a sufficient depth to close numerous roads and threaten homes and businesses. Flooding will extend inland from the waterfront along tidal rivers and bays resulting in some road closures and flooding of vehicles. 

Flood Warning remains in effect until 11 AM EST this morning

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues.
  • Impacts: Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, roadways, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring.

Wind Advisory remains in effect until 7 PM EST this evening

  • West winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 55 mph. 
  • Impacts: Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 10 AM EST this morning

  • Snow. Additional snow accumulations of one inch, with up to 2 inches above 3000 feet. Winds gusting as high as 40 mph. 
  • Impacts: Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning commute. Gusty winds could bring down tree branches.

New York 
Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect until 10 AM EST this morning 

  • 1 to 2 feet of inundation above ground level expected in vulnerable areas near the waterfront and shoreline with this morning high tide.
  • Impacts: Widespread minor flooding is expected in the most vulnerable locations near the waterfront and shoreline. Expect around 1 to 2 feet of inundation above ground level in low lying, vulnerable areas. Some roads and low lying property including parking lots, parks, lawns and homes/businesses with basements near the waterfront will experience shallow flooding. 

Coastal Flood Warning remains in effect until 10 AM EST this morning 

  • 2 to 2 1/2 feet of inundation above ground level expected in vulnerable areas near the waterfront and shoreline with the morning high tide.
  • Impacts: Moderate flooding of vulnerable areas near the waterfront and shoreline, particularly Wednesday morning. Expect 2 to 2 1/2 ft. of inundation above ground level in low lying, vulnerable areas. This will result in numerous road closures and cause widespread flooding of low lying property including parking lots, parks, lawns and homes/businesses with basements near the waterfront. Vehicles parked in vulnerable areas near the waterfront will likely become flooded. Flooding will also extend inland from the waterfront along tidal rivers and bays. 

Flood Warning remains in effect until 11 AM EST this morning 

  • Urban area and small stream flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues. 
  • Impacts: Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, roadways, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Streams continue to rise due to excess runoff from earlier rainfall. It will take several hours for all the water from these storms to work through local drainage systems in urban areas. The Bronx River remains in moderate flood stage.
     

Wind Advisory remains in effect until 10 PM EST this evening

  • Southwest winds 15 to 30 mph with gusts up to 40 to 50 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

Flood Advisory remains in effect until 8:45  AM CST this morning

  • Urban and small stream flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.
  • Impacts: Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas.
     

Wind Advisory remains in effect until 6 PM CST this evening 

  • Southwest winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 45 mph.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. 

Washington
Blizzard Warning remains in effect until 10 AM PST Wednesday morning

  • Blizzard conditions expected. Total snow accumulations between 10 and 18 inches above 4000 feet. Below 4000 feet up to 10 inches. Winds gusting to 65 mph or higher. Blowing and drifting snow with visibilities one quarter mile or less.
  • Impacts: Travel will be very difficult to impossible. Widespread blowing snow will significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions will impact travel Monday night through Wednesday. Very strong winds could cause extensive damage to trees and power lines. 

Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 10 AM PST Wednesday morning

  • Heavy snow. Total snow accumulations above 2500 feet 1 to 2 feet, below 2500 feet up 6 to 10 inches. Winds gusting up to 35 mph with locally higher gusts in the mountains to 50 mph.
  • Impacts: Travel will be very difficult to impossible. Areas of blowing snow will significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions will impact travel through Wednesday. Strong winds could cause extensive damage to trees and power lines.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 10 AM PST Wednesday morning

  • Snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 4 and 8 inches in the valleys. Methow Valley to Mazama, snow accumulations up to 10 inches. Mountains above 4000 feet 8 to 20 inches, with highest amounts near the Cascade crest. Winds gusting as high as 20 mph in the valleys Tuesday. Mountain wind gusts up to 50 mph Tuesday. 
  • Impacts: Travel will be very difficult. Areas of blowing snow will significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions will impact travel through Wednesday. Gusty winds could cause tree damage.

Flood Advisory remains in effect until 1:30 PM EST this afternoon

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.

  • Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 3 and 7 inches with locally higher amounts possible in the Zuni Mountains and over Mount Taylor. Winds gusting as high as 35 mph.

  • Moderate snow expected. Gusty winds up to 55 mph. Total snow accumulations from around 1 inch at 4000 feet up to of 3 to 5 inches above 5000 feet. Northwest winds will increase to 20 to 35 with gusts up to 55 mph. Isolated to 65 mph possible on favored peaks and foothill locations. 
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult, with potential for delays and closures. Interstate 5 near Tejon Pass could see snow, ice, and gusty winds, which could cause significant travel delays.
